[OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

If they wanted to do it, it would have been much easier if Joe Biden picked Michelle as his running mate and then withdrew. There is no way a ticket of Michelle and Kamala works. So, why would they bring Kamala into the mix?

Because two weeks ago they thought they were going to win easily.  Now that momentum has changed to Pres Trump they are panicking.  So I am thinking MO for Pres, some key white swing-state guy for VP, & Kamala Harris gets the promise of an important high-profile Cabinet job to position her for next time.

Do Americans really support these political families? This is what democracy is supposed to be about? Politicians from lucky sperm club? These Kennedys, Bushes, Clintons or Obamas really need to go IMO.

As for Harris as VP, well it doesn't make sense since Biden has the black voters locked up already. He doesn't need to convince the convinced. He needs to convince the blue collar workers whom Hilary Clinton lost four years ago and who enabled Trump to win.

Yet another American has been killed in political violence this week.

A right-wing group organized a drive through protest in Portland. Counter-protestors immediately showed up, and took up spot along the route to try and halt the caravan. There were reports of widespread fist fights, people throwing objects at each other, people using bear spray on each other, etc. It sounds like someone was shot after an altercation. It’s pretty chaotic right now, so it’s hard to get any reliable details.

I never really got the idea of Michelle Obama as president.
Sure, she's popular, but she is no politician and has stated several times that she don't want to be one, especially after 8 years in the White House.

She's charismatic and did a very fine job as a first lady, especially with her child obesity focus, but there's a damn long way from being first lady to being president where an "easy", non-divisive cause is nowhere near enough.

Well. Can't really say that the big families are doing great.
There's only one active Kennedy i politics right now and it looks like he'll lose the primary in Massachusetts. Jeb Bush lost the presidential primary which he was one of the favourites for meaning that George P. Bush is the only active one there. (he could be up for something big in the future, but that seems pretty unsure), Clinton isn't that much though Hillary will by all means stay active, at least as long as we have a Trump as president and Obama isn't more of a political family than the fact that people like Michelle.

And Harris as VP makes perfectly sense. Sure, Biden is pretty much certain to get much more black votes than Trump, but he needs more of them to vote. The turnout among blacks dropped 4 years ago to a level that was even below 2004 (don't think comparing it to the Obama elections will do much good).
And who's gonna help with the blue collar workers? Biden is pretty much the strongest of the democrats there, unless you think the more progressive people will do better.

Second it's good for the senate election which could end up just as important as the presidential. Right now it's not unlikely that the democrats can flip enough seats to get both chambers. That would be more challenging if picking other candidates like Duckworth, Warren or Baldwin who would need to be replaced in more uncertain states.

Third, it really is questionable how much effect the VP pick does have on a ticket. It's not unlikely that Palin helped McCain lose back in 2008, but generally the effect is small at best.

Whelp, the newest national poll by Emerson confirmed my worst fears. Support for Trump is up, though marginally, and he now sits only 2 points off Biden.

Biden 49%

Trump 47%

We’re going to give that NAZI a second term. We’re so fucked.

Democrats have lost the blue collar workers. It's as simple as that :dunno: It's very unfashionable to look after those people in modern politics and social media trends and guess even four years of Trump hasn't learned them anything.

Over in the UK Labour started losing stonewall seats in the North East and even the Brexit shitshow couldn't let them back to power. Blue collars are conservative people by nature who will never vote for cheap labour seekers who are coming for their jobs. These people historically voted for the left-wing parties only because of the working rights' support not because of gav rights or stuff like that.

Democrats have abandoned these people and focused on liberal ideology plus allowing more immigrants into States. Blue collars will never vote for a party that would happily hire thousands of Mexican immigrants in their place (for less salary).
