Not nearly :p

Plenty of events where there is only 1 potential challenger instead of several :d

And yet the British team had the flag all ready.

Pidcock :GBR and Dascalu :ROU ended being rather consequential for two riders who nearly didn’t qualify :d

Milan Vader (who was very happy with his own race and said he enjoyed it) talked about this as well: he said during lunch/breakfast they were talking about it and said most riders would jump it. Van der Poel said he didn't, he'd go over the wood, but Vader told him that at the test event in 2019, they removed this before the race because these kind of wooden things are meant for training only, to get to know the jumps in a relatively safe manner.

"In the first lap I then saw that the wood was indeed gone and a few seconds later I heard people yelling behind me, then I basically knew what happened." he said. Of course he couldn't confirm, but when asked if he thought VDP knew about the wood being gone: "I can't really say, but....yeah I think so, because we talked about it this morning."

Its a pity for VDP. Horrible crash. I hope he is fine.:(

The german commentator said, that it was communicating that the ramp will be removed for the race.

(Althrough why install a ramp in training and remove for the race?!)

For training purposes, so the riders can get to know the jump in a relatively safe manner. It's apparently done in some races when there are big jumps (especially if they're new).

    • Keeping to the women's hammer theme - worlds silver medalist Jie Zhao has gone out to 78.22 in chengdu a new  and asian record.[tough Chinese women absolutely rule this throwing event in their continent holding the the top 14 all time places].
    • it was all expected, tbh fencing has now become a truly global sport if there's a sport that deserves to increase its olympic quota places (both in the team and individual events), that's fencing ioc can't ignore the elephant in the room
    • This is the first photo from Artemis2 , so earth is not flat , but we live on 1 continent only 1
    • Overall, all of Old Europe is poorly here: France - 0 medals, Germany - 0 medals, Italy - 1 bronze, Hungary - 1 bronze. For many years the fencing authorities' policy has been to give greater support to Asia and other new emergent countries: Africa, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia, etc., and perhaps that's where Europe's crisis? Additionally Russia has returned and is immediately very strong.
    • and the bronze medal has gone, too   won 45-44
    • after the fireworks at the NCAA finals last week, Australian Open from tonight...expecting some interesting clockings
    • How are they going to decide who the 18 teams are for next year's championship? I see world 'C' events on the calendar already so some decisions have probably already been made.
    • qualified to both of Today's Gold Medal games    and beat  in both tournaments in their way through to the final    the disappointing campaign of the young  sabre continues (even if the boys are now playing for bronze against )
