oh, c'mon, man! Testa (women's -57kg) against Vorontseva (RUS) in the preliminary round and the winner against Walsh (IRL)...

basically, 2 of the 3 favourites will be out by the end of the second round...

and of course also the no.1 Lin (TPE) and Petrova (BUL) in the same half of the draw...

meanwhile in the bottom half they just can save time and put Artingstall (GBR, who's not even in the top 5 of this class in terms of talent) in the Gold Medal match...

I'm not sure Artingstall can defeat the Brazilian; even less sure she can make it past the winner between Tunisian Hlimi and our Nechita. Nechita is kinda dark horse...you'll see :p

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

Thought draw for all the Irish boxers except Kellie Harrington who avoided most of the dangerous non seeds until the semis at least.

Aidan Walsh is now our best chance of a men’s medal but his sisters draw is so tough

Gone from hoping for 3/4 medals to thinking we’ll get one now

Yeah. Exactly my thinking too.  Definitely O'Rourke and Michaela will find it hard to medal now. Although if O'Rourke does win she should medal. Walker, Irvine and Brennan got brutal draws as well.

Still in 2016 I though we were certain of 4 medals and that collapsed on the eve of the Olympics opening.  As of now I'd be ecstatic with two boxing medals. Indeed very happy with one.

Yes, any medal is always welcome. I think Kellie will get one now. I’d be disappointed if she doesn’t

I’d be surprised and delighted if any of the others do

Unlike previous times, i have absolutely no expectations for this boxing tournament. Tough draws were expected and along with the unfavorable refereeing we receive in the last 10 years, equals early exits. From our 3 boxers, they can get 1 win and then things will end in the second match

M 52 - Daniel Asenov - 1 round win over :ROU Girleanu and 1/8 loss to :ESP Gabriel Escobar

W 51 - Stoyka Krasteva - 1 round win over :VIE Thi Tam and 1/8 loss to Soluianova / Fuchs

W 57 - Stanimira Petrova - 1/8 win over :COL Arias and then 1/4 loss to Lin / Petecio

I had the most faith in Petrova, but that draw is brutal. All favourites are in the top half. If she was in the bottom, she even could have been a finalist. Now it's going to be very tough and lucky, if she gets to the 1/2

Another sport and another terrible draw for Polish athletes :wall::stop:

I think the draws are rigged against countries with red and white only flags jk

    • Though I did just see that today's race isn't valid for FIS points.
    • Let's not act as if these things never happen before. Serbia's cross-country skiing drama a week before the Olympic qualifying for Beijing ended: FIS | Cross-Country Results - Zlatibor (SRB) 2021/2022   Drndic with a DNF, despite being - on paper at least - the best athlete. She didn't just 'not finish', she stepped out barely 50 meters before the finish, because if finishing, the points for her competitor would have been better due to the way points are calculated. Ended up with lots and lots of yelling and screaming and fighting and cursing, DNS the next day and in the end Serbia sent none of them.   This is not a shit move by Canada, this is a fault of the system at most.
    • Yes agreed, resetting it would help make it more dramatic as no one would be running away with it. We could also set it that there is a small reward for ranking higher after each round… maybe they start the next round with a “head start” so they bring a few points into the next round? But starting from scratch each round might be cleaner
    • I like the concept a lot. My only worry would be that the nations doing the best individually would also end up at the top here as teams are only made up of pairs. Whereas in a bigger team it gives the nations not doing so well individually to have another chance if they are lucky enough to be placed in a good team. Any way we can balance it?
    • I thought about accumulating, but for higher drama it may be reset like in cycling track elimination races
    • Those are the national junior championships, national championships are in Steinkjer, starting tomorrow: FIS | Steinkjer (NOR) - Event Details - Cross-Country
    • Nice for them, but also kind of too bad they pick the exact same two as last time. Would have been nice to see Regina Martinez for example (although I'm not sure that would have been logistically possible, depending on how they're going to do the flag bearer thing in the first place).
