Milan Cortina 2026 unable to find company willing to build sliding centre:

The venue intended to host sliding sports at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games is still yet to have a company willing to carry out critical construction work.

The Organising Committee had launched a search for tenders to develop the Cortina Sliding Centre, which is due to stage bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton.

Milan Cortina 2026 has confirmed that "no offers have been received" following the end of the first part of the tender procedure which began on June 5.

Costs for the facility have skyrocketed with the original expected figure of €41.7 million (£36.5 million/$45.3 million) increasing to €85 million (£72.9 million/$92.5 million).

A deadline of November 2025 has been set by Società Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026 (SIMICO), the Games' body responsible for overseeing venue readiness, for the completion of the venue.

Sent Chinese there. They will build anything in such a short time 😄😄😄😄. But they will have one condition. It must be THEIRS otherwise they won't build a thing 😐😐

As a fan of bobsleigh having the Olympics in St Moritz would not be the worst outcome, I’ve always wanted to see Olympic bobsleigh there. Obviously it would be somewhat less than ideal for Italy to not be able to have a sliding venue built in time.

it's not all over yet, as the problem is building the track for the 2024/2025 Winter in order to have the test event in that period

actually, if the timeline was the Olympic Winter (with the test event just a couple of months before the Games), there wouldn't be any problem

so, it's just a question of finding the right deal with IOC and the sliding sports federation...

I still think that the track will be in place come November/December 2025 ;)

Does anybody remember, if there was an official date until IOC have to announce their official decision if they will allow or not Rus/Blr athletes to compete in Paris Olympics?

I don’t think there’s a hard deadline. IOC has a lot of power when it comes to who can participate at the Games. They may set a deadline for themselves, but as prior situations have shown, those can be permeable if it benefits the IOC.

Yeah, the only certain deadline is next year´s March for Ice Hockey. IIHF already made it clear it will be the final deadline for them regardless of IOC approach to the topic, March is the final possible timeframe, when the organization will have to decide whether RUS and BLR will take part to the Milano/Cortina Ice Hockey tournament/Qualifiers.

This is also the date literally every Slovak has marked in their calendars, since the final decision will affect our position of direct qualifier or Qualifying Tournament participant

Looks like the Sliding events might be hosted in Bejing.

No lol

Main options is Igls, if Italy will decide to don't host in Cortina or Cesana Torinese

Its been confirmed sliding events will be held outside Italy, presumably Innsbruck

Meh, that is highly unfortunate. Understandable, but unfortunate :(

Innsbruck is a fun little track, but that's just it: little. It feels way too short for a modern-day Olympic sliding track..
