karate is played worldwide unlike skateboarding in 5 countries

Skateboarding has a larger audience, but yes there are established nations in the sport

Too bad for the athletes, but I still find it an excellent decision.

actually, I find it the most stupid decision ever...:hairpull::thumbdown:

Karate is one of the most universal sport in the world, usually at the world champs we have all the 5 Continents (6 sub-Continents, if you want to keep North and South America as 2 separate entities), 4 of them making the podium...

many weight classes have more than 100 starters (with the usual limitation to 1 per NOC! :yikes:)...

but they decided to give them just 10 spots per class and they didn't even allowed all 6 classes per gender to be in Tokyo...and then...bang! they killed the sport and its athletes for what? breakdancing! a non-sport activity played by a bunch of babies with street (often criminal) culture as their main background...

the same for skateboarding, BMX freestyle...and all the other sports where you have always the usual 5/6 participating Countries and only the usual 3 Nations winning (almost) all the medals...

and let's not talk about corrupted or doping inflated sports (do you know Boxing and Weightlifting?), always under threat to be dropped and actually never really in danger...

or what about sports where only the 2nd/3rd tier athletes are participating to the Games (any reference to men's Football and Baseball is purely intentional)...

moreover...they threatened to drop many sports because they're male-only oriented (causing abominable monsters like women's boxing to be included in the Olympic schedule), but they keep Artistic Swimming and Rhythmic Gymnastics well stuck into the program (and they even forbid those few men practicing Artistic Swimming to dream about an Olympic medal keeping the Mixed Duo -now an established event at the world champs- far away from the Olympics)...

dropping that sh*t would be an excellent decision...not dropping one of the most wide spread sport in the world...:pope::wall:

Sport Climbing is 3,000 times better than both, and I much prefer taekwondo to karate.

well, that's your more than respectable opinion...

but still, it's only an opinion...;)

and decisions about being part of the Olympic program or not should be taken on the basis of facts and numbers, not opinions...

p.s. and if we consider breakdancing (and any other similar activity), they just have nothing to do with sport and with the Olympic Games for objective reasons...

moreover, putting 12 years young kids together with adult people and letting them competing one against the others is simply DISGUSTING and IMMORAL!!!!!!

those who just thought about such a shame should spend the rest of their lives in jail!

Let's not pretending that we don't know why Karate is not an allready established olympics sport. This is beacause of 'dancing around with your feet up and not doing much' which translates in Korean as 'Taekwondo'.

ok, if you don't know and/or don't like Karate, it's your taste...it's OK and should not be commented...

but denigrating it with false interpretation is not elegant at all and shouldn't be an option...:finger:

Well, yours are also opinions. ;)

Don't get me wrong, breakdancing was the most stupid decision ever (which is also an opinion) but I like most of the other sports you don't like, or you don't consider sports for that matter. But would you rather have an Olympics with only 12 events like the Ancient Olympics? That would be uninteresting.

I'm not a "huge" fan of Karate but I defend Karate when I see skateboarding or breakdancing are in the program !

but I don't know why people even compare karate with taekwondo !! taekwondo is about 95% kicking and 5% punching while Kaarate is about 80% punching and 20% kicking beside that in taekwondo you have to hit as hard as possible while in Karate you will get penalized if you hit hard !

you will find more similarities between football and handball

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics
    • Super Round Results   21/11    b.   2-0  b.   9-1   22/11    b.   8-2  b.   9-6   nothing is decided yet, all teams still have a thoretical chance to make the Gold Medal match   Tomorrow, the last day of the Super Round sees  facing the  at Noon local time (4 a.m. CET) and  facing  at 7 p.m. local time (11 a.m. CET)   the medal games are scheduled for Sunday, BMM at Noon local, GMM at 7 p.m. local
    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
