Sprint Canoeing 2016 Discussion Thread

Mozambique defeats Sao Tome and Principe by 0.13 seconds in C2.  Heartbreaking.

Sao Tome and Principe were also 2nd in C1 1000m... Last chance is in 200m, but I'm not hopeful.

So unlucky, I think they are essentially guaranteed a tripartite quota. STP has always had good relations with the ICF and I can't think of a nation more deserving of one of the two spots.

Today's qualifiers

Men's K1 200m - South Africa (they will not accept it according to their selection criteria so it should be Egypt)

Men's C1 200m - Tunisia

Women's K1 200m - Egypt

Looks like we have a reason why Sao Tome and Principe underperformed so much. Frustrating.

This would make for an interesting story, but unfortunately it seems it's impossible to find any more news about them except for their names..

This weekend the first part of the german world cup qualification races took place, the second part will take place on April 30th/May 1st.

Sebastian Brendel will try to win a quota place for Rio in mens C2 together with Erik Rebstock. They won the first qualification race ahead of Kretschmer/Müller.

Ronald Rauhe won mens K1 200 m ahead of Lemke and Liebscher. This is a pretty disappointing result for me, i thought that Liebscher would be stronger.

Mens C1 200 m was won by Kiraj ahead of Holtz and Nuck. Womens K1 200 m was won by Volz ahead of Kowald and Medert.

Womens K1 500 m was won by Weber ahead of Hering and Medert. Mens C1 1000 m was won by Brendel ahead of Vandrey and Oeltze.

Max Hoff won mens K1 1000 m ahead of Rendschmidt and Spenner.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
