What a surprise, big discussions and possibly unfair decisions in boxing...who could have imagined that

Can we just please get this joke of a sport away from the Olympics for one or two cycles so they can get their mess straight?

No surprise. There is always a degree of problems with the judges sports, because in the end it is always a personal opinion. We have seen it a million times and not only in boxing, but in a variety of sports. But boxing seems the cream of the crop for some time now. For me they always want to "award" many countries and overscore some athlete from a country X and then underscore another one, because that country already had success in another categorie...

"What a surprise" was very sarcastic, everyone expects that there will be horribly unfair decisions all over the board, which is why this joke should move to a comedy club instead of the Olympics for 1 or 2 Olympic cycles :p

Great day for us, 4 wins and only 1 loss. :) Especially happy for Petar Belberovs win in the super-heavyweights against the russian boxer, because i was almost sure of judges shenanigans.

I dont even know some of our boxers here ...

Christos Cherakis?

Pinar Touba?

Marutjan, Scheurich, Harutyunyan, should qualify, everything else would be unacceptable (i wrote it without knowing the schedule or the results so far) ...

Sadly Hamza Touba has an impossible draw, i really wouldve liked to see him in Rio.

Pros arent allowed here?

Does anyone know if Anthony Joshua will try to qualify? It would be amazing to see him in Rio.

Joshua won't even try to qualify, since GBR have stated that no "real Pro" would be named...they would go till the end with the guys who have represented the Country through the whole Olympic cycle...

in any case, the established pro fighters will only be allowed to enter in the final Aiba Pro Boxing qualifying tournament in June...the other meets are only intended for the guys committed with aiba only...

p.s. I don't think Scheurich will qualify here in Samsun...she has to beat the current World Champion (Savannah Marshall, GBR) to get through to the final (and thus earn an Olympic spot)...and I don't see hw it could happen under normal circumstances (even if we know that in boxing there are no normal circumstances, especially under aiba rules)...

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.
