Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Championships 2025

A matter of the pot calling the kettle black. The Indonesian authorities conveniently forgot about their occupation of East Timor from 1975 to 1999.

I'm not opposed to International federations banning Israel (though *now*, of all times over the past couple years, seems a little suspect), but host countries absolutely should not get to pick and chose which countries get to compete in events they host.

This is just the classic Indonesian way of doing things.

When discussing about possible Israeli participation, they will always say "no issues, we can make a special arrangement". But when confronted with huge domestic backlash, they will reverse position before you blink.

But again this event is hugely advertised in social media, so it's just a matter of time before people found out. Mikhail Iakovlev and co could participate in UCI Track Nations Cup in 2023 without any issues because the promotion is lacklustre, plus it happened before October 2023.

Think we might see other countries withdraw in protest. USA, Germany and GB some of the key ones.

Israel should get Trump to comment on it if they want drama.

Are we sure Trump knows the difference between India and Indonesia? That could be quite funny indeed.

FIG messed up by not having it in the contract like the IOC does.

Israel really should be able to get at least one other country to boycott it.

I understand Indonesia's political reasons; they are fair, but if a country can't host any other country for a sporting event, it shouldn't have the right to host a competition, not at the level of a world championship.

In any case, Israel should be grateful it wasn't banned from all competitions.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
