Italy isn't even certain of a top-eight finish yet. Without that 9 gold, we're 90% certain to be sure overtaken by Sweden, France and Germany. To even think about a third, you'd need at least 10 gold medals, as the Netherlands will likely win that many in short track and speed skating. -

Seriously, for a home competition, the Italian team is embarrassingly weak on equipment and Vittozzi's gold won't change that. Losing to Poland or Bulgaria in the relay is a shame. In 90% of the races here, our skis are poorly prepared- I don't know what they're doing in Anterselva, but it seems they're completely incompetent on their own snow. With better equipment, Italy could have won one or two more medals here. -
Reasonable, even slightly surprising 12th place for Bulgaria . Congratulations to France
