Athletics EAA Team European Championships 2025

9th place at the end, not great, not bad...

We belong to this division and we proved it again.

Zapletalová just briliant, Blšťák in LJ the absolute breakthrough of the weekend in our team. Domotor having so far his careers season and a Very good Viki Forster once again. My tops

On other side Volko very dissappointing, Veszelka nowhere of his pre-injury shapes are the folks I expected much more of them

The rest more or less as expected, the massive drop in the field events is sadly currently unsolvable, some did more than we were hoping in W LJ, M&W PV, M JT, W HJ, M SP some were even worse... Without injured Gajanová we did not expect anything from longer distances, Zapotočná in W 800 and the amateur runner/surgeon Ďurec in M 5000 did great jobs though

So all in all we are at our level 7-9th places in Div II and it is fine considering all the facts and obstacles our sport is struggling and facing now

Using the season's best of each athlete from the entry list I have calculated a projected points calculation for the 2nd Division.

Obviously this is full of caveats due to the fact some athletes are just starting their seasons, some season's best will have been vastly improved since the entry list was released earlier this week and some strong athletes have no seasons best yet and thus their points will not reflect their true potential. Also I did not include the 3 relay events either. Nevertheless I thought it would be nice to calculate it and share.

Rank  Nation Pts
1  :BEL Belgium 407
2  :NOR Norway 384
3  :TUR Turkey 358
4  :SLO Slovenia 340
5  :IRL Ireland 333
6  :ROU Romania 307
7  :CRO Croatia 304
8  :AUT Austria 277
8  :SVK Slovakia 277
10  :DEN Denmark 267
11  :EST Estonia 257
12  :ISR Israel 248
13  :SRB Serbia 239
14  :CYP Cyprus 230
15  :BUL Bulgaria 207
16  :LAT Latvia 189

Belgium should have enough to take the title and Norway should be comfortably in the promotion spots.

There might be a decent battle for the third promotion spot and with Slovenia at home they are likely to outperform expectations and could really challenge Turkey for promotion. On paper Ireland are in the mix too especially as the relays are not included in this projection and Ireland will be among the strongest teams in the relay events. But I think we'd need to be on our A-game to earn a shot at promotion and I think it might be just beyond them this time.

So the projections before the championships were pretty spot on in the overall standings.

Congrats to Italy!

Good tournament for :NED, winning 8 events, but definitely lacking in the field events compared to the top 3 countries, making it impossible to finish on the podium.

Some breakdowns, showing that Italy is the deserved winner as the most allround country during these championships. It also shows that the top 3 countries dominated the field events, whereas the track events were much closer.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
