Alpine Skiing FIS World Championships 2025

Recommended Posts

It's just that in winter Italy doesn't have any flagship sport (like Germany in luge, Austria and Sui in alpine skiing) and recently we've had practically no positive surprises for outsiders, like in summer events. We have the multitude of 4-5 places and still watching the backs of the powers in different sports, whether in luge or alpine skiing etc. In alpine skiing we have strong girls but if that translates into 1-2 medals at the World Championships, then we have nothing to talk about. Especially since Brignone and Goggia are over 30. Next year's winter games will be an epochal defeat for us, because it will be difficult to even win 10 medals. Only speed skating and short track can save us.

Some results in the last few days in several competitions:

- Paris: 4 in men`s downhill (0,15 to podium),

- Goggia: 5 in women`s Super G (0,06 to podium),

- Paris: 7 in men`s Super G (0,16 to podium),

- Fischnaller: 4 in men`s single luge,

- Voetter/Oberhofer: 4 in women`s double.

Only Brignone in women`s Super G have a medal but only silver behind 0,10 sec. Venier from Austria.

It's really hard to watch you constantly lose to Germans, Austrians or Swiss in various disciplines and you're helpless in it and no other positive surprise compensates you for it. I'm slowly getting fed up.

How long will the events tommrow and Wednesday take. My TV schedule says only 45 mins or so for each of the two events.

It's a bit of a time waster frankly.  A team combined event with different people doing each leg, and multiple teams per nation.

They took away long lasting legacy of combined races to replace it with Team Combined.

I am not a big fan of these experiments being adapted immediately by the olympics.:mumble:

All Olympic Sports are unfortunately under pressure from the IOC to produce mixed-sex events, no matter how much they detract from history & tradition.

The only interesting story today was Shiffrin dissing Vonn and later won with Johnson, while Vonn finished well behind, mostly due to her downhill.

    • Yeah, was noticed and corrected on Day 2.
    • What about Day 2 though? Were the markings correct that day? Because I am still blown away by Mawdsley’s 48.34     I am guessing though it was mainly only affecting the first leg runners?
    • well, those splits were actually suspect   now we know they weren't reliable at all
    • Stories emerging that on Day 1, the track was wrongly marked.  Specifically the start marks for Lane 3 on the 4x400m meant that runners were running short distance.  Don't know what is going to be done, but presumably WA must stand by the results, although any records set will be scrubbed.
    • Had privilege to see  loosing to  live in the arena! Amazing Swedish team!
    • There are things I find pathetic, but saying a competition is unnecessary right after you don't qualify for it is the typical display of a loser. Pietro Maschio, when Conegliano qualifies for the Club World Cup next time, should refuse to participate like the Polish clubs do and stop spouting nonsense.
    • The biggest surprise is that Ranefur (rank 70) won over LSD!
    • Never wanted something to be more wrong then I did now... synchronized skating and no ice cross    And of course we'll probably win the gold medal in it because it's a sport that I hate, the same thing happened with "breaking" aka breakdancing in 2024.
    • No surprise — it’s the result of months of controversy, including media backlash. It all started with the federation’s decision not to select Romei, who is very close to Costantini, for the Olympic Games, and to call up Rebecca Mariani instead. In recent months, the Romeo/Costantini duo allegedly tried to push out Lo Deserto as well, and these are the results…
