Football Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

The very talented 17 yo Konstantinos Karetsas announced he will play for his parents' country :GRE instead of his birth country :BEL

The Belgians do not seem happy but as a Greek, we have been in that position many times with dual citizens so it is nice for it to work in our favour sometimes too :d

I mean in basketball we could have Vezenkov but instead he chooses to play for his parents' country :BUL, despite never living there, when with Greece he would qualify for major tournaments and be one of our starting players, and for Bulgaria they rarely qualify for anything...

Italian football had its share of shocking surprises this season, some that maybe you would not see years ago.

So after Internazionale beating Lazio 6-0 away earlier in the season, yesterday it was Atalanta Bergamo's time to put 4 unanswered goals in Torino over Juventus.

Taking the post to a more close theme towards LA 2028, given the birthdate of the scorers last night, I'd say Retegui and Lookman would have chance to make one of the over 23 players in the squad, of course if their teams qualify.

I had high expectations for Motta, but Juventus have been playing awfully almost the entire season.. The CL elimination was disastrous and they are barely hanging to top 4 in the Serie A. And with their schedule it's very possible they miss the CL next season and even dropping out of the Europa League. If i was in the Juve board i'd start panicking. And they also have the World Cup in the summer.

Italia has been having a disastrous year in Europe in general. After being the top nation the past 2 years and almost getting 9 teams, now they are losing the extra CL spot and it's not sure if they'd even have a team in the 1/2 in Europe. :wall:

Last time they won anything Anthony Eden was prime minister? @Grassmarket

Vivianne Miedema scores a brace to give Manchester City an unlikely advantage over Chelsea into the Champions League quarter finals second leg.

The difference was made after the break with none of the Chelsea stars as Lucy Bronze, Lauren James or Mayra Ramirez able to counter on the board.

The women's soccer World Cup will be held in the :USA (and apparently other CONCACAF countries) and in 2035 the Home nations :GBR will host.

Apparently Infantino wants to expand the field to 48 teams

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory
    • This is the home town of our very own @heywooduand @brunamoura
    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
