With the Group Stage done in the final stop of the Challenger Series season, we know majority of the teams qualified to LA to play for the promotion to the 2025-26 SVNS.

In the Men`s, :CAN, :GER and :POR qualified to the SF so therefore they are also qualified for LA. The 4th spot will be between :CHIand :SAM. The points difference is 2 points in favour of Chile, but Samoa qualified for the SF and Chile not. If the points awarded in this tournament is the same as the rest of the other events (its not clear yet), :SAM will need a 2 position advantage, meaning that if they win one of the two matches they have tomorrow they will go to LA, or if they lose both matches and Chile lose at least one out of the two. In the case Samoa lose both and Chile wins both, there would be a tie (and i dont know the criteria there really).

In the Women`s, :KEN, :RSA and :ARG qualified to the SF so therefore they are also qualified for LA. The 4th spot will be between :COL and :THA. Colombia has the huge advantage with a 8 points difference. Thailand qualified for the SF. This means that :THA needs a 4 position difference for a tie and 5 to win. If :COL wins their first match tomorrow and :THA not, :COL qualifies. In case :THA wins too, the next match of each team is crucial, Thailand needs to win and Colombia to lose.

World Rugby annoucned today the new SVNS format for 2025/26:

https://www.svns.com/en/news/999470/world-rugby-unveils-evolved-svns-model

Division 1 will have just 8 teams with 6 tournaments, and Division 2 will have 6 teams with just 3 tournaments. The top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs together with the 8 Division 1 teams.

Division 3 will be a single tournament with 8 teams, where the two finalists will advance to Division 2.

The 2025 Los Angeles repechage tournament will determine which four teams will play Division 2. The other four teams will play the continental qualifiers for Division 3.

I love that they didn't bother to explain what the hell will happen at the end of the season, because the answer is probably the end of the SVNS. And by love I mean hate.

...what even is the point of Division 1 tournaments? Sounds like its just a series of friendlies and that only one tournament a year will matter for D1 teams.

They had a massive opportunity after the last Olympics and they seemingly completely dropped the ball. The interest is there but they need to be focusing on generating interest through the media. It's an entertaining sport (as evident by the positive reception it had at the start of the olympics) and the sport is a highlights package of ten second clips but how often do you see it pop up on social media? Also how often does a tournament sneak up on you because you had no idea it was happening and it was your calendar that saved you?

They can make their tournaments more scalable but it will only be a short term fix and it will probably dilute their 'revenue base' in the long run. Also gimmicks such as rebranding it SVNS only showed them as decision makers who are out of touch.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
