Luge new formats :cheer: Let's see what's they invented..

Silly of me to think, that when you have an event named Mixed doubles, you would have a man and a woman on the sled and not another relay event

Great to see luge being back underway, but annoying that the graphics aren't really working properly yet

They're showing the time gaps at all the splits, as per usual, but then at the finish there is only the actual time, and no time gaps, resulting in all the time having to mentally calculate the difference to see if someone gained or lost time in the last part.

Was going to write the same thing - unless it is all to keep us on our toes with our mental arithmetic.  Did seem to be working for the mixed relays though.

Anyway, back to Proper Team Relays next week.

Didn't get there yet, so I'm still curious as to what a 'mixed singles' is exactly :d

I mean, in tennis that'd be a man vs a woman, I suppose :p

Worth seeing, if only for some of the bizarre trans-national lineups.  OK, :FIN/:EST makes a lot of sense, but :AUS/:SUI & :ARG/:SVK were international sporting firsts.

That was one of my highlights of the luge weekend, for sure. It's great that athletes who are good, but also the only ones in their country on this level, can actually race in a team competition this way (especially goes for Ferlazzo and Maag).

IBU had these trans-national teams in biathlon relays, but those times are long gone unfortunately.

  • 2 weeks later...

Unfortunately never able to catch up with Luge until the middle of the week, but we are seeing an incredible change at the top this season with :AUT dominating :GER in the Singles.  Don't know if this has ever happened before, but if it has, then certainly not since German Unification and probably not even then.

well, in the last 35 years we've had a lot of seasons where the :GER singles weren't the best at all (despite Georg Hackl and Jens Mueller winning a few Olympic and World titles in this span)

among the men, people like :AUT Markus Prock and :ITA Armin Zoeggeler have won tons of races and world cups in the Nienties and 2000's...and they haven't been the only ones

actually, there have been more periods with :AUT and/or :ITA dominating the field rather than :GER

among the women, after the :AUT Doris & Angelika Neuner + :ITA Gerda Weissensteiner's runs in the early/mid Nineties, it's really been all :GER
