I mean, she can lift at 90% of her capacity and still easily win gold.

Another scenario: The Chinese rider intentionally crashes into the United States during the points race of the omnium to prevent her from winning gold.

Or maybe the United States wins one of those golds, but somehow chokes the basketball game. :p

I don't know if the US rider is the favourite but that often works against you in the Omnium (and Madison) as you're heavily marked by your competitors.

As to this China - USA rivalry..from obvious reasons i always rooted for USA. But now i have to admit Chinese athletes and staff look very positive, relaxed, like there is some small change. Nice. Wish them well.

I fell in love with sports.....since i first seen it

I don't really care one way or the other, but I'd prefer the US to top the medals table as it's a much more a genuine grass roots sporting nation than China.

Not exactly. We think of China that way because...we know why. But looking at it wider....it is one of the oldest civilazations (yes, sportive too) and USA has many sins like atomic bomb or native people😉😉. Also with hiding their doping. No, it's not that simple as media are saying 😉😉. I just think we should look at it wider. Not be so biased.

I didn't wish to go that far... Simply, there are probably not many amateur divers in China. Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of sports being dominated by elite-only programs without any grass root to support it. Seems a bit factice to me (and it's not only about China).

Two different approaches maybe. Not better / worse. And maybe we underestimate them, i don't know. Here they look reallly well, sometimes more emotional than Americans. I just mean that for the first time i am not biased. Why not China.

As someone who knows nothing about wrestling, is Japan likely to win both of their gold medal matches later? I’m assuming their favourites in at least 1.

Hoping Australia can hang on to 3rd but it’s unlikely now

No, at best both matches are 50-50, with the men's final being 60-40 in favor of Iran imo.

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
