Dream day for Australia

I love this

Dream day needed gold in the men's 400 but still an awesome day! I'm just a bit bummed about the times.

I will go on about it until doping is eradicated.

Doping will never be eradicated not even in your own country or anywhere else.

How much is China paying you?

Nothing sadly. The obvious stupidity of people who think that British or American athletes are any cleaner than Chinese athletes just disgusts me.

Titmus, Ledecky and Fairweather were all almost exactly 2 seconds slower than their best time this year. McIntosh on the other hand went a best time, so she seems to be in a better shape than at trials. The same is true for Gose (and Madden) who set a German record. I think in a „normal“ pool Märtens and Titmus both would have been at least very close to the world record. I think the women‘s times would have been something like:

Titmus 3:55

McIntosh 3:56

Ledecky: 3:58

Fairweather 3:59 low

Gose/Madden 3:59 high/4:00 low

Still surprising that Gose (and Madden) were so close to Ledecky and Fairweather.

Gonna be interesting to see how the pool affects the 200 because Mollie's relay lead off was in line with her performances earlier this year so even if she might've been faster in a better pool she wasn't slower while Titmus was slower. It seems like not everyone is affected by a "slow pool" to the same degree.

True but I think there’s cause for optimism in other events now that we didn’t have pre night one, such as men’s 100 (chalmers at trials was a fluke), Titmus maybe challenging in 800, and ZSC maybe being able to challenge if Qin is in poor form.

The main thing that has gone worse for us is the medley relay because of Williamson

Forgot to mention yesterday, that Dressel didn't look convincing to me at all. The US had a gigantic lead before him and by the end Chalmers and Frigo had slashed a good chunk of it. Don't know, if he relaxed by the end, but i have my suspicions.

Good point. I still think Pan will need to regress back up to the 47s for Chalmers to win but his stocks have definitely risen and I think the wavey pool might actually suit him although Pan doesn't seem to have too much trouble with it either.

They're probably gonna have to use ZSC in the relays if he's looking good in the 200. In Tokyo he produced a couple of pretty solid splits but he's been quite unreliable since.

Why would he relax? He's got four days off until his next race. He usually gets a bit faster as a meet progresses but that was the old Dressel so I'm not sure that'll happen this time.

    • It's not a coincidence that a lot of the matches that are earlier in the day are in Atlanta and Houston and Dallas where they have roofs.  And most of the games in the outdoor stadiums are later in the day.
    • The best athletes will all be there anyway – it's easier to get a spot in the top 10-15. Only the great champions were ahead of Gismondi today.
    • They are not "oppressed enough" to be mention here.
    • And remember the Olympic Paradox - it is slightly easier to get a medal at the Olympics than at a World Cup because in the Olympics the numbers of racers from the powerful nations are capped at 4.
    • Jimmy Mariano  basketball. 84 years old.   Member of the Philippine men’s basketball team at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Flag bearer for the Philippine delegation at those Games.
    • Franchi had a similarly impressive performance at the 2023 World Championships on the same distance but later she completly missing. I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
    • The last day was a great success, for first. Secondly, even 20 medals are fewer than the 22 from 2023 and 34 from 2021
