Sulamanidze throwing away his gold with a super dumb (and rightful) penalty :facepalm:

Yup. :GEO gifted the gold to :AZE there.

I am happy the referee didn’t let him get away with those two blatant penalties just because he was ahead with a few seconds left.

Tselidis :wGRE: wins bronze medal!!!  :clap: Our first medal in the Games :torch:!!!

We definitely expected a medal in judo yesterday but from Teltsidou, not Tselidis! I'll take it though! What a nice surprise for once.

I know he won a couple of European Championships medals in the past but this is probably the first surprise Greek Olympic medal since 2004 (unless you consider Korakaki in 2016 a surprise)! Usually our Olympic surprises are painful losses, they are very rarely unexpected medal!

Also our first judo medal since London 2012 ;)

I can't believe it :cry::facepalm:

And she had like 15-20 family members come, her immediate family and all of her cousins, aunts, uncles...

Based on her family, their jobs, and where they are from/live she probably grew up poor so I'm sure this was a big deal for the whole family to go to Paris just to be disappointed...

And when she was "pinned down" (sorry I don't know the proper judo term) at the end for 10-15 seconds, you could hear the desperation and heartbreak in her family members' voices screaming "Pame Liza! Pame Liiizzaaaa!" because they probably knew it was basically over and they were doing anything they could to try and inspire her to pull off a miracle :cry:

For you to realise how much "football-dependent" is Portugal. It's so sad but so hard to change unfortunately....

Oh and if you think "yeah but it's just a bronze medal...", remember that Portugal gets very few medals per games so any medal should (and is, by those who appreciate it) be celebrated as an historical moment.

A curious fact about this one: the medal won by Patricia Sampaio :POR resulted in Portugal to finally have more medals (29), in our entire history, than Michael Phelps (28 in total) :lol:

    • The lack of fans is something i have mentioned and observed for a couple of years now. And it relates to the whole of Scandinavia (with some exceptions here and there, like Lahti last week). Whatever snow sport i watch in Scandinavia, it's always jarring how there are barely any fans, when compared to starts in Continental Europe.   I don't know what is the reason, but it feels like people there have started taking skiing for granted and something that's an everyday thing and not a special sporting event. And they know their starts aren't going anywhere, because of history, climate situation and necessity.
    • some of them already have the Italian passport, however all of them are eligible to get it, if required should our NOC and federation want (which is a big "if"), we are always able to field a very competitive team, even better than this one on paper (we could call up pitchers like Gerrit Cole and Zac Gallen, for instance)

If  looses then they need either  to loose or  to loose.   For  to qualify they need to defeat  and  to loose.
    • This is why baseball is good for the Olympics. There are nations that will compete for medals in baseball that very rarely compete for medals in many other sports.  did not win a single medal at Paris 2024.

    • It was the first international hockey match in Hyderabad since 2003. The stadium had been left unused.   Recently it got a makeover, increased seating, new astroturf, floodlights, dressing rooms and gpo painted. It had the old turfs in a bad condition until few months ago when I went. Sergio Pagni, India's compound archery coach was then guiding young archers. Bushes had grown on some part of the stadium, the cement seating had been damaged and a significant part of old turf had worn out making it non usable for hockey.   A lot of people I met during the tournament here especially those in 30s 40s were confused with the quarter system and were asking when did it become quarter.. wasn't it two halves of 35 mins each... Hockey used to be popular once but after 2000s it has gone on decline and post 2010s it's been an exponential decline with the rise of T20 Cricket and IPL.
