Third direct last quota match defeat for :SVK within a month after Jedináková losing both boxing semifinal and 3rd place match, Salkazanov obviously losing the wrestling semifinal last weeend and now our mixed double losing the final.

Maybe we will still somehow manage to attack the 20 qualified athletes barreer at the end, assuming 2 swimmers will receive universality invitations, but I do not believe it a second.

So assuming :CHN:KOR:JPN:TPE:ROU:HUN get the world ranking quotas, currently 9 men and 11 women single quotas will be available through the World Rankings.

Of course, this may increase during the continental single qualifiers.

I'm a bit confused here

let's consider the HKG player Wong, he won the mixed double quota here, but that doesn't automatically mean he can participate in the singles event too, right ?

in this case he has to participate in East Asian qualifiers, what if he fails ? he still has a very good position in the WR to win a ranking quota. but even if he wins a "ranking quota" that doesn't occupy a quota because he already has XD quota and the place will go to the next guy in the ranking.

my question is can someone like him participate in the singles event ? someone who could win a ranking single quota but won a XD double quota before that.

He cannot compete in the singles event unless he qualifies in single.

If he qualifies from the East Asian qualifier then his athlete quota from mixed doubles gets re-allocated to the singles world ranking.

If he qualifies from the singles world ranking then his mixed doubles athlete quota gets re-allocated to the singles world ranking.

:HKG can qualify up to two men's singles athletes, if they qualify two men's singles athletes and none of them are Wong then Hong Kong simply has two men's singles athletes and a different male athlete in the mixed doubles.

My understanding is that he can only play XD, but if he qualifies in single as well, he can compete in singles AND his "double quota" gets reallocated to another single player so that TT can fill their number of quotas.

Oh that's sad to hear. We too have the same issue very small squad, no women's hockey team and very few medal hopefuls. I hope we don't return empty handed

It's not sarcastic. Only Neeraj is kind of sure. I don't trust our shooters or archers. Men's Hockey is out of form. In Badminton men's doubles we have chance but not any other event. We won quotas in boxing in AG and drew a blank at qualifiers so I don't know where we stand can't get hyped by AIBA Women's World champs hosted at home. Wrestling was marred by protests which even lead to suspension of federation, no Olympic medallist made current team for Qualifiers and no national camp has been held for 1 year. Even our top weightlifter Mirabai is not at her best and lifted 185kg or so and competition in the category has increased . If all things have to go badly, it could end up as low as 0-2 medals. Yes, things can go the optimist way too but yeah if the games are held now we might be there at the bottom
