Now that all the winter world championships for this year are done, it's a good time to do a recap of the Canadian performances. Overall, Canada won a total of 26 medals in Winter Olympic events this year (10 gold, 9 silver, 7 bronze). That would be a better performance overall than Beijing. Compared to other countries this year, Canada is tied 3rd in golds (behind Norway and the US and tied with Switzerland) and 5th in total medals (behind Norway, Germany, the US, and Switzerland). There were a bunch of other top 8 performances as well. The table below could help identify who'll be the medal contenders next year.

As a fan of Short Track I know you should never trust them. The randomness gives, but also takes.

Excellent summary! 

 

Short Track is doing a lot the heavy lifting here, getting over 50% of gold and silvers. It would be unbelievable for them to actually meet those expectations in Italy, but I'll still be very very cautiously optimistic. 

 

We'd probably expect more from mixed curling and men's hockey. Not to mention good chances in mixed events like team figure skating, team snowboard and team aerials. Lots of up-and-comers in freestyle. I'm also a bit more optimistic on speed skating than this table suggests. 

 

Overall, I expect a lot more than Beijing, and I'd be very pleased with these results right here (besides hockey). I really don't want to jinx short track, but man is Canada due.

Yeah overall I think it was a solid year, lots of ups and downs, surprises and disappointments, and new talent coming in as well. 

 

Overall I do expect a lot of things in a few months, def looks as tho we'll do a lot better in terms of medals than Beijing.

 

It's really nice to see how well curling has rebounded after the state it was several years ago.

 

As for hockey? Well...
