The draw for Paris will be important

It seems they will use the current series format (1A/2nd best 3rd, 2B/2C, 1C/2A, 1B/best 3rd) but I hope there will be no draw, only a serpentine assignment. If not this is completely flawed as only the first pot seeds are assigned a group, the rest being randomly drawn. This means you can be the 4th seed and still end up with the 1st, finish second in the group and have to face the group C winner (3rd seed) in QF.

The seeding is also to be determined. Using Madrid results could completely shake up the face of the tournament depending on how it goes (same for Challenger teams).

Anyway, should it be done now, with South Africa taking the last spot we would have :

A : :ARG :AUS :RSA :JPN

B : :IRL :NZL :USA :URU

C : :FIJ :FRA :SAM :KEN

The best player of :ARG (Marcos Moneta) suffered a fibula fracture in the first minute of the first match in Hong Kong.

Unless the injury is more serious than speculated (more studies pending) he's in time for Paris. But seeing the team playing relatively poorly without him could mean two rough stages are ahead.

A victorious start for :ARG in the finals but yet another injury of a very important player before the match even started:facepalm:

No Moneta and Osadszuk for these finals is quite a handicap. In principle both should be fit for Paris at least.

:CAN with a HUGE 26-19 victory over :NZL yesterday in pool play at the HSBC SVNS Madrid! :yikes::yikes::hyper::cheer::thumbup::jawdrop:

First victory over New Zealand in women’s sevens since 2016! We’d lost 27 straight since then.

Probably one of the greatest months in Canadian rugby history (minus the men’s sevens team, who have been a downright disaster...) with Canada’s women’s 15s team also defeating New Zealand 22-19 to win the Pacific Fours title.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Off to Milan for the 145th session of the International Olympic Committee. Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
