Fencing FIE World Cup 2023 - 2024

Recommended Posts

Fantastic World Cup for Kharlan - she finally won her first gold at this level since 2019.

So proud of her and this victory shut the mouths of some users who talked nasty about the decision to give her a quota from the IOC now fencer from this user's country is in total danger of failing to qualify for the Olympics. So it's revenge :raspberry:

Do you know how many WC starts will not be counted in the Olympic ranking? Is it 1 or 2?

As far as I know oly the worst result is to be scratched

According to my calculations the battle for the European quota is not finished:

:UKR  - 250 pts. Worst result to be potentially scratched - 22 pts (12th place)

:EST - 218 pts. Worst result to be potentially scratched - 24 pts (10th place)

:SUI - 209 pts. Worst result to be potentially scratched - 23 pts (11th place)

Ukraone can be reach by one of these tems only if that team wins gold at the last world cup. Thus maimum points for:

:EST  - 258 pts. :UKR  needs 5th place to get 260 pts

:SUI  - 250 pts. :UKR  needs 11th place to get 251 pts.

I do not know the tie-break rules. But Ukraine has Gold and Bronze from the world cups so it could be possible, that Switzerland (no podiums yet) is not in the competition anymore.

Georgiadou was leading Battai 9-6 the moment Gkountoura lost in the quarterfinals. It's like she noticed what was happening on the other piste because she immediately went from 9-6 to 10-13, eventually losing 14-15. This was really a great opportunity for her to close the gap in the ranking, now it really seems like she will miss yet another Olympics. Hopefully she'll be able to keep going until Los Angeles 2028, where she can finally make her Olympic debut at age 37...

I did my calculations before the final had come to an end, but it looks like position of Poland is safe enough. It may happen that your quota can be confirmed today.
