UWW confirmed the dates for the World Wrestling Championships this year - 12-20 December in Beograd. Also the U23 Worlds are probably canceled.

On a side note, our World Champion Taybe Yusein had a major injury and will be out for the next 6 months and thankfully will start training around february-march and prepare for the Olympics.

actually they officially cancelled the U23 Worlds but kept things unclear for the senior worlds but yes I also read the source of your post. looks like right now there is more chance to have the World seniors. while health of the athletes is the top priority I really hope they find a way to have this competition, 7 months without wrestling is already too much ! :pope:

since IOC/FIFA/ AAA/BBB/CCC are worried about the murderers, I wonder why they didn't defend Oscar Pistorius, he was an Olympian and a Paralympics champion after all, he had the right to kill people and walk free, they were cruel to deny him that right.#FreeOscarMurderious

I don't want to get into details, this is a sport forum, but from what I read, heard and watched, I think he is guilty, of course I don't trust the system though. but this is just a simple murder case, not a security/political matter. (where they feel they have to lie) the Iranian regime is notorious for dishonestly, so you always can say something against them and hope for people to believe it.  that's what this guy's family is doing. but I don't think this is going to help him, his claim doesn't have much support inside the country (unlike another case a month ago about 3 other kids and they survived eventually) this is mostly twitter and naive western journalists trying to make a story

I have to correct few things about this case, my reaction was negative at first mostly because of those fake "Wrestler Champion" part. when you see a lie you don't believe everything at first. but the more I learned about the case the more suspicious it seemed to me. he was indeed a wrestler but in a low level, never won anything in his own state to even makes it to the nation-wide competitions.

but to me his story looks like some Hollywood movies when some powerful guys kill someone and then they find a weak uneducated random guy to take the fall, (remember Prison break season 1 ?) except this guy happened to be a random wrestler and his story made it to the public. and his execution in such a hurry broke so many laws (I'm talking about the current Iranian laws !!) which makes things much more suspicious. some people (including myself) don't think he didn't even get executed. he was probably got murdered (by accident during a fight or beating or maybe intentional)

@heywoodu I thought I should mention you, since you were interested in this story and I gave you some wrong information

For the love of the sport? :cheer:

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

@phelps can you give us any update on the current citizenship of naturalized Italian wrestlers ?

beside Chamizo, we know Kakhelashvili also received his citizenship, what about Conyedo and Kudiamagomedov ?

They are not (and will not be for Tokyo) Italian citizens. Being few foreigners in Italy, and not being married to an Italian, they would have to wait 10 years for citizenship. The only way to obtain it is an ad hoc provision of the council of ministers that assigns the citizen to him for sporting merits (but every year there is a maximum citizenship limit to be assigned)

    • - Great Britain Team Size Prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2026 Milano Cortina   Ski Sports   Alpine Skiing  (4) - The qualification system is a bit confusing, but from what I gather the team is Guaranteed 2 quotas (one for each gender), and then more are given for rankings. I can only see 1 female qualifying, but the men's team is a bit stronger, and could improve with some juniors coming through. I would say a baseline of 3, with a max of 5, 6 if things really improve.  Cross Country Skiing  (3) - The men's team came 11th in the world cup last year, and with some good results could move up to top 10 which would give 3 quotas, The women's team is non existant.  Ski Jumping  (0) - Nope Nordic Combined  (0) - Nope Freestyle Skiing  (6) - Based on last year rankings, the athletes are ranked: M Moguls (26/30), M Ski Cross (26/32), M Halfpipe (33/25), M Slopestyle (39+40/30) W Moguls (23+42/30), W Halfpipe (3/25), W Big Air (5/30), W Slopestyle (19+22/30)  Barring Injury , thats 2 quotas on the women's side, and I would predict 4 more, with a max team of 7 or 8. Snowboarding  (2) - W Halfpipe (34/25) is the only unknown quota, as both Charlotte Bankes and Mia Brookes should qualify easily. Huw Nightlingale may get a spot for the Mixed Team snowboard cross but I don't know how it works. Biathlon  (0) - Nope Ski Mountaineering  (0) - Nope     Skating Sports   Speed Skating  (2) - Cornelius Kersten and Elia Smelding should qualify, although they both haven't competed this year. Short Track Speed Skating  (2) - A team of 5 went to the world but only a couple could really qualify Figure Skating  (4) - Fear and Gibson should qualify, and the pair team is ranked 16th in the world with 19 qualifiers.      Sleigh Sports   Luge  (0) - Nope Skeleton  (6) - A full team is certainly on the cards, but with only ranking points from the next season counting a lot could change Bobsleigh  (6) - Brad Hall and Co should qualify for both 2 and 4 man. I doubt any more will qualify from the mens side. Adele Nicholl on the womens should also qualify in both events     Team Sports   Curling  (12) - Anything but a full team would be a dissapointment Ice Hockey  (0) - The men were the only chance       Total Optimistic Prediction  -  (60) Total Pessimistic Prediction  - (32)   Total Realistic Prediction  -  (47)

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
