@Sindothe title of the thread should probably be changed from 2022 to 2026 at some point.

  • 3 years later...

Canoe, golf, field hockey, karate, modern pentathlon, shooting, sport climbing, surfing, tennis and weightlifting have essentially been dropped from the 2026 Youth Olympic program.

Hate to see canoe and field hockey gone. Both very respected Olympic sports

Weightlifting is weirder. You can host it anywhere.

I was more thinking about the "How do you do fellow kids" vibe IOC loves so much.

Wait till you hear what they will do with these sports

Sports on the engagement program (so the dropped sports) will also have the opportunity to establish a significant presence at the YOG, with these sports being showcased through various activities on the ground and on the various Olympic online platforms, promoting them as integral parts of the YOG Dakar 2026.

I mean, they were given 4 more years to pull it off and we get this?

YOG are irrelevant now, every hist after this edition will try to cut costs by showcasing sports they don’t want to host.
