Winter Olympic Games 2026 Bid Process

Yeah, I think it's dead too. I don't believe in this bid. I'm surprised IOC want it as a candidate at all.

Well, it's a pretty big winter sports nation embracing one of the major changes in the Agenda 2020 and it uses quite a lot of existing venues.

Could have been pretty healthy for the future of the Winter Olympics.

"$800M from City of Calgary for Olympics 'not a good deal,' says Nenshi"

"I would like to think it's dead," said Chu, but added that Calgarians will have the final say in the Nov. 13 plebiscite on the bid.

Lombardy, Veneto and Sudtirol

no, in any case at max it would be Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino (even if they would eventually include Predazzo and Val di Fiemme -which is not confirmed at all, since Mlan has still in charge the agreement with St.Moritz, they are NOT in South Tyrol, which is only Alto Adige, or the autonomous province of Bolzano/Bozen, if you prefer)...

What would they have in South Tyrol? Nothing confirmed as far as I know.

Biathlon, i guess...

actually, according to the previous design (the 3-headed monster), the biathlon venue is going to be Livigno...and I don't think that's going to change...

moreover, I think Livigno is also going to host Cross-Country Skiing now, while Predazzo would host Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined (always if the St.Moritz idea is going to be dropped, which is not sure at all at the moment...it all depends on the funding for the Cortina track...if they re-build that, then the Swiss trip won't happen, but if they can't find all the money needed for the Cortina track -the most expensive sport structure of all Games- then there's no 3rd option, they have to keep St.Moritz involved -and they also already have Jumping Hills for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined, which would keep Predazzo out of the project)...

as you can see, there are still quite a few things to be determined before we can have a proper idea of what's going to look like our new bid...

p.s. right now a meet between Malagò, the Milan and Cortina Mayors and Veneto and Lombardy Governors is underway...let's see what comes out from that...

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
