Main talk today seemed to be about technicalities actually. Whether this can be done without changing the Olympic charter and what would the "Swiss lawyers" say about that. :d interestingly, 1924 and 1928 Olympic were also jointly awarded!

Wow I didn't know this! I thought it was the first time it happened

They should never award more than one Games at a single campaign. But they would, it's known since last year, so yeah...

I'm sorry, but I see it as the absolutely right decision. It gives the necessary time to consider what to do now. We're in a bit of a crisis when it comes to bidding.

It can be awarded in case of exceptional circumstance. Every IOC member agreeing about it is indeed an exceptional circumstance.

Cities which maybe would like to try 2028 bid acoording to the IOC rules now even will not have a chance. Just because IOC changed their rules after the point, when the game started. IOC broke fair play rules. But nothing new.

And yet someone like Isinbayeva very much agreed with the proposal in her speech. :p

Assuming that Paris would win 2024 alone, who would enter 2028 bidding (besides probably USA)? Australia already said they don't plan to bid any time soon. Africa/South America (and other developing nations) are definitely not encouraged after Rio. Asia hosted a lot of them recently. So that leaves North America vs Europe (European chances would be diminished after Paris 2024, and yet you would very likely once again have a lot of cancelled European bids, like Italy who pulled out from both 2020 and 2024...). Situation in Europe is so bad that no one wanted to host 2022 Winter Olympics. They really just needed to enter and they would certainly beat the Asian bids, practically guaranteed victory for any remotely serious bid.

They didn't break the rules btw.

That's not about she or somebody else said or about cities which will have Olympics. That's about the equal chance for everybody what they always promote.

Cities which maybe would like to bid 2028 Olympics were waiting to the start of the company like it have to be. Nobody really knows what will be (even if you will have only one bid for 2028 you can take your decision in the normal way). But what IOC decision looks like: "Cities, sorry, you were waiting in vain. Forget about your bidding for 2028. Now we don't care about how it had to work. You had to try 2024 bidding for being in 2028 battle. And we don't care about that we didn't say this previously".

And the most funny thing is "exceptional circumstances". I think in general exceptional circumstances are hurricane, tsunami or something like this.

IOC worked too bad last decades with how Olympics should be in the modern world and now almost no city will not bid for them. But IOC prefer to call this like "exceptional circumstances".

How can hurricane or tsunami force IOC to award games prematurely? That has nothing to do about this, exceptional circumstance is about current climate in Olympic movement. As Agger said, this is an opportunity to re-evaluate the bidding in general. They were talking about changing Olympic charter and saying that Games can be awarded early if an IOC session decides to do so, but the general consensus was that having a full agreement about this was an exceptional circumstance. They wouldn't agree on this every time.

Besides, with this decision we will have a rare occurrence that 4 different continents will host 4 consecutive Olympics. I fail to see how all this can be a bad thing. Sure, somebody may have missed a chance, but the potential candidates for 2028 mostly included those who pulled out on this and/or some previous occassion (like Germany, Italy, Hungary...). Who's to say they wouldn't drop out again?

Which cities were waiting to bid for 2028 though?

Here's something, though a lot of them seemed to be a pure speculation. Like Australia who denied any possibility later on.

    • Many things, probably they thought it is already over and the win will come itself... but also Nitra improved their play a lot, they outplayed us in physicality in the last 2 games, they won almost every duel. Was hard to watch. Anyway I am still persuated we will finish the job at home with success on Tuesday
    • If you look at their results this season and on the Super Series, it’s not really that surprising.    I’d consider them to be medal contenders.
    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
    • yes, but that's only an (important) episode... I mean, what's up with your team more in general...it looks like they got the classic "fear to win", they're not as brilliant as they were in the early games of the series
