Equestrian at the Pan American Games 2023

Unlike some other silver medals we won at the Pan American Games, I'm very happy about this one, which of course is our best result ever :yes

Very good freestyle for :DOM Losos de Muniz. This could seal an Olympic quota.

:CHI Grimm has been close or better in the technical tests this week, but experience plays a big part in freestyles, so it has to be the Dominican with the upper hand here.

:CAN Naima Moreira-Laliberte's freestyle was fun as always. :)

Not really a fan or solo violin/piano music, but her composition is top notch.

Fun fact about Naima - she is the daudghter of Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil (and a famously bad poker player).

Gold for :ECU Mendoza, very close silver for :BRA Oliva and bronze for :USA Marek.

Individual quotas will be assigned to :ECU :CHI. Ecuador will be competing in dressage for the first time since Los Angeles 1984.

Great job :BRA João Victor, only our second individual medal in Dressage (and best result ever). Also surprising result from Renderson, who started competing this year and gets a 5th place here.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
