To be fair you do have 3 golds in the non-Olympic classes and Italy remains the top lightweight nation, it just didn't quite come together for the Olympic boats.

I think it means they wont be eligible for the Pan-Am continental qualifier so miss out on possible extra quotas.

Well technically yes, but Italy is so far behind the rest of the field, that anything other than a 6th would've been a massive surprise. Also, as @Rafa Maciel said, if Canada failed to qualify a boat here, we would be eligible for the Continental Qualifiers (and likely two extra quotas).

11 boats qualified for the Olympic Games, it's absolutely fantastic, 44 athletes out of a possible 45. Rowing is by far the number 1 sport in Romania, I hope for some very good Olympic Games from the Romanian rowers. Good for them.
