Shooting ISSF World Championships 2023

Damn, so close to that medal... Still, this is an unexpected 4th place and quota from Fábián. We might qualify two Hungarians in the end in women's pistol, we still got Major who should win that quota eventually, she was very close to the final today.

I see that Tužinský is this cycle really trying very hard to do everything possible and impossible to miss the Olympics

Podiums and medals Every non-qualifying race, among dead lasts every qualifying race. No idea what´s the problem with this guy, definitely not the nervousness, he already have enough experiences (Olympics as well) behind his belt for that ... I can already picture how he will at the end even lose the eventual direct place through the ranking (he was even leading it few weeks ago) given the tendency...

anyway...

Two german shooters in the final and both finished last ... amazing mental strength.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Now, I really hope :CZE Tomas Nydrle will earn the quota. World Champion, one time world cup winner, European Games silver medalist and has never been to the Olympic Games. Finished 1st below the line not only once. Btw, in skeet, it was :CZE Radek Prokop for Paris. ..... Tomas deserves qualify for the Olympics so much. But if he does not win the quota, I guess Jakub Tomeček will be sent as he earned the quota and wants to make it to the Olympic final as he finished 7th in Tokyo. Good luck buys. Tomas is on the good path, shooting down all 50 but so as other 9 shooters....

Anyways, very interesting how skeet competition is devided into 3 days. Never seen this....

Guys, how about the mixed pair competitions. I know that NOCs that qualify at least one man and one woman for the individual competition get the right to sign up a team for the mixed team competition. But what about events? Are there any events from which NOCs can specifically qualify athletes for only the mixed team competition? I was searching for this and it really seems only NOCs that qualified athletes for individual competitions and plus it at the end of the qualification period, there might come an invitation for an athlete from a country that does not have a quota in a certain event in order to compete possibly in the individual and also mixed team competition, right?

no, unlike in 2020, this time there's no specific qualification event for the team competitions

it's simply a matter of qualifying at least 1 man and 1 woman individually

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory
    • This is the home town of our very own @heywooduand @brunamoura
    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?
    • Other winners at the PanAm Sports Awards Junior 2025
    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
