I can't find an official document for baseball/softball but the Italian Federation has just published an article with all details, saying it is now approved by IOC: http://www.fibs.it/it/news/nazionali-baseball/43221-tokyo-2020,-il-sistema-di-qualificazione.html

Summary:

Softball

Japan

World Champs (August 2018) - 1 team

American Qualification Tournament - 2 teams

Asian/Oceanian QT - 1 team

European/African QT - 1 team

Baseball

Japan

Premier 12 in November 2019 - best team from America and best team from Asia/Oceania

American QT - 1 team

European/African QT - 1 team

Final QT - 1 team

So basically 2 American teams? that will be very tough, between USA, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico (i know that it wont be MLB players, but still have talent)

Don't forget Canada... 2 time defending Pan American Games champion in what will likely be similar team compositions for these qualifying events.

A third American team can qualify through the Final QT, which will consist of 6 teams:

- 2 from America (2nd and 3rd placed at American QT);

- 1 from Europe (2nd placed at European QT)

- 2 from Asia and 1 from Oceania (selected through their continental championships).

FINA by laws have quite a bit about the qualification. It's not the official qualification documents, but it does tell a lot.

So two more teams and 2 less duets in artistic swimming.

Seems like it, yeah (though I guess we should wait for the official system, as these may be from before approval)

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
    • Voted  Thank you for extending the deadline and allowing me to vote once my exams are over. @OlympicIRL
