Summer Olympic Games 2020 Qualification Systems

Recommended Posts

It also helps the team event. With only 4 athletes per team it really limits a nation if they pick an apparatus specialist. Any team member would realistically have to be good in at least two events to make the team (except the US women's team, they could send three athletes and still win gold :p).

Only few tournaments here, but no European championship? Maybe EC 2019 or EG will count for ranking?

This is referred to 2018, only 1 continental championship per continent will be counted for olympic ranking list, the last to be held during qualification period. It should probably going to be European Championships 2019 in Spain

Other sports,no yet?

Here are the last things I know about other sports:

1) http://www.rollersports.org/discipline/skateboarding/news/item/1341-skateboarding-at-the-olympic-games-tokyo-2020 it is a link with general explanation on Olympic qualification for skateboard but it almost says nothing you cannot imagine;

2) Judo olympic qualification period will start in May, with the first tournament for earning points being the Hohhot Open in China on May 22, if I remember well;

3) For baseball, Premier 12 (8-21 November 2019) will assign at least one quota; this should mean that Softball World championships (2-11 August 2018 in Japan) will do the same;

4) Triathlon qualification period should be from May 11 2018 to March 10 2020, with the first event to be used for point ranking that should be World Series in Yokohama, starting on May 12 2018;

5) This season Beach Volley World Tour will be used to define a 16-pair tournament (1 per NOC) which will play an Olympic qualification tournament next year, I suppose before World Championships.

http://www.rio.itftennis.com/olympics/news/%2Folympics%2Fnews%2Farticles%2Fitf-introduces-continental-qualification-places-for-tokyo-2020

The ITF today announced the introduction of six Continental Qualification places for both the men’s and women’s singles events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Tennis Event. The new qualification places have been approved by the IOC Executive Board as part of the Tokyo 2020 Qualification System for tennis that will be released by the IOC in the coming weeks.

The 2020 Olympic Tennis Event will once again feature five disciplines: men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. Each singles draw will comprise 64 players, with a maximum of four players per nation. There will be 56 direct acceptances as at previous Games, and eight ITF places, including the six Continental Qualification places.

For the first time in Olympic history, players will have a chance to earn their place in the Olympic Tennis Event through success at one of the regional multi-sport games, including the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 African and Pan American Games. In addition, one place will be awarded to the highest ranked man and woman in both Europe and Oceania from a country not yet represented in singles.

The following will qualify for a Continental Qualification place provided their ranking is within the Top 300 on the singles rankings of 8 June 2020, and provided the quota for that nation has not yet been filled by four direct acceptances:

Continent Qualification Route Quota Place Quota per gender
North & South America 2019 Pan American Games - Lima, Peru Singles winner and runner up 2
Asia 2018 Asian Games -  Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia Singles winner 1
Africa 2019 African Games -  Luksaka, Zambia Singles winner 1
Europe Universality Place Highest ranked athlete on the Singles Rankings that is from an NOC not yet represented in singles 1
Oceania Universality Place Highest ranked athlete on the Singles Rankings that is from an NOC not yet represented in singles 1

Danish media is saying that this could be a way out of the rules meaning that players have to represent their national teams.

Have you heard about this? Haven't been able to find it anywhere else.
