Kazakhi literally ran off the mat once and still no points were given to Bajrang.

That was only one of the "fouls" he committed today. I think the center referee asked for point+caution at least 3 times (or maybe 4) but they accepted it only once. beside that the ref also once asked for 2pts for Bajrang for exposure still not confirmed by other 2 refs . and that 4pts throw . this time all 3 refs agreed with 4pts for Niyazbekov. the Iranian commentator was sure it was 4 for Bajrang. personally I'm not sure. that was 50/50 call. somehow both of them initiated the attack. I will watch it again later today to convince myself what was the correct call. right now I don't know.  but even if that one was correct, Bajrang has enough reasons to be mad. I think in a fair world, Niyazbekov should be disqualified with 3 cautions

btw I wonder if anybody noticed most of Kazakhstani wrestlers received very good draws. they had 2 today. both of them used it. they will have another one at 74kg tomorrow. they also had some "very easy draws" in Greco. 2-3 at least. I wonder if they were just lucky or something happened behind the scene.

In combat sports like Boxing, Wrestling there is no fair world. You give your best and hope that you are not screwed by refs/federation.

I understand boxing. this sport is simply hard to judge. but wrestling shouldn't be that hard. they also have video challenge system !! there are 2 problems. 1) rules are not clear. there are so many 50/50 situations, 2) those who apply these rules are corrupt . and I have to tell you the current UWW is an upgrade comparing to the old FILA. you can imagine how bad it was.

and it's not about all combat sports, taekwondo is going into the right direction. yes there are still matches like Walkden-Zheng this year. but they reduced it big time. personally I don't feel "organized cheating" anymore when I watch teakwondo. while in wrestling I simply never trust the refs when we are facing certain countries. for example Azerbaijan used to receive favorable calls all the time. but since last year they stopped their financial support and this year I have to say some of their wrestlers got robbed. they turned into the victim in a year !

I agree. Even if someone doesnt like Lalovic, he did improve some things.

I am still not satisfied but contemporary wrestling is miles ahead of previous system.

Absolutely horrible world championships for Germany ...

Stäbler got completely destroyed and lost his title and out of 4 athletes who reached the semifinal (Schell, Focken, Kudla, Popp) noone reached the final!

ehm yeah.. 5 quota places and 3 medals so far (only few NOCs have more at this point), something I did not dare to dream of prior to the WC. If THIS is horrible, alright,

Btw Stäbler won his title 2018 in a different weight class (72kg) which is not part of the Olympic programm. He had reduce weight to get in the 67kg class and won Bronze. I think that's pretty good ;)

2nd day of freestyle

74

1) looks very easy for Chamizo, the only who can challenge him is the Kazakh guy. who will most probably qualify through repechage.

2) Kentchadze is the clear favorite but it won't be very easy for him, we have Khadjiev, Nedealco, and 2 more from UKR and ARM. but they have to beat Kentchandze because there is no repechage because of Chamizo in the semifinal.

3) very very easy for Sidakov, and if he manages to beat Burroughs (or anybody else) in the semifinal. one of these guys will be in the Olympics ! it's hard to pick any of them. bunch of mediocre wrestlers. Ireally had hard time to pick any of them. I go with Japan even though I don't know this guy. only because their main wrestler is a good one and if this guy beats Fujinami he is probably good too.

4) as usual 15 wrestlers in this quarter, so many candidates, but of course the main candidate is Jordan Burroughs. I think Abdurakhmanov is the next best guy in this quarter, we also have Demirtas and the Azerbaijani wrestler, and again Gomez, Nurikov, a Russian from Hungary. plus 2 grandpa coming back after a big while, Garzon of Cuba and of course Sushil Kumar !!! and I don't even mention our wrestler, he is the worst.

my picks: :ITA:GEO:KAZ:RUS:USA:JPN

125

1) this is funny, Geno is already in the semifinal no doubt, but there are 6 other below average wrestlers here and one of them will go to the Olympics when Geno wins the semifinal. I don't know these guys and had to search about them. I think this is the best possible chance for all of them. the Syrian guy is actually from Russia (with Syrian heritage) I don't know anything about him but he is Russia after all !

2) this is probably the toughest "quarter" because if we consider Geno and Akgul as tier 1, we have 5 Tier 2 wrestlers here. and only one of them will go to the Olympics because the winner will lose to Geno. both Iran and Russia have last minute replacements here, I assume they are not in the best possible shape, to me it will be between UKR or USA. but of course all of those 5 guys stand a good chance.

3) piece of cake for Taha, and most probably a quota for Ligeti. maybe only the Indian guy Sumit has something like 10% chance to upset Ligeti. this one was easy to predict.

4) Ding is the 2nd seed and world silver medalist but I still I can't consider him the favorite, we have Magomedov here, I also don't know about his shape. I expect Ding and Magomedov to face in the QF but that's not a sure thing. one thing is guaranteed, only one wrestler will qualify from this quarter.

my picks: :GEO:UKR:AUT:TUR:AZE:HUN

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I assume people are less interested in non-Olympic weights but finally we have someone with a very easy draw :d yayyy :d I think we will have semifinalists in both of these non-Olympic weights. not just because they were lucky. they were also better wrestlers comparing to our team members in "olympic weights"

    • Update after Matchdays 8 and 9.   Group A:  is almost a lock with 21p, and 7 games 7 wins. Almost impossible for them to not qualify. The battle is in the second place between  (16p) and  (13p).  with 8p is almost out.  and  eliminated.   Group B:  won both of the 2 games so is almost secured with 19p.  is second with 14p, with  (1 more game played) and  with 11p.  is eliminated and  practically too (6p)   Group C:  went 2 out of 2 so they are still first with 16p and one game less than the rest. The battle for second place will be between  14p,  11p and  9p.  eliminated and  (with one game less and 4p) probably too.   Group D: Only 3 for 2 places.  first with 19p has the advantage, but coming close is  with 16p. They played each other in the Matchday 11 of 12. Coming in third behind is  with 11p. ,  and  eliminated.   Group E: Both  and  won both matches so its still the same, Poland first with 24p and Italy second with 21p, which is the best runner-up and also qualifying directly, so is very likely that both teams end up qualifying no matter who finish first and second. , ,  and  eliminated.   Group F: A tie between  18p and  18p. Germany has the goal advantage (+21 to +20), and has to play the three weaker teams, so its more likely to qualify.
