Tokyo Summer Olympic Games 2020 News

2% mortality rate beats 0%. I'd be hysterical if I had to go to an event and risk contracting a virus that could kill me instead of staying home and not risking anything.

And at the same time, risk people contracting the virus and spreading it all over the world.  The risk of holding the Olympics isn't just that people attending will get sick, but that they'll be a danger to others.

Cancelling sporting events is being overly cautious to be sure, but if doing that for a few weeks might help contain the spread of the virus, that's a small price to pay to potentially save people's lives.

This scaled down version of the flame ceremony has me really bummed out. As an agnostic, this is about as close as I come to witnessing a religious event (at least in terms of how sacred it is for me). All of the fun has been sucked out of it, and I honestly don’t even want to watch it now. I might just rewatch the Rio 2016 one honestly. I will say that I don’t blame the HOC, IOC, or Tokyo2020 at all. They’re just had to play by the rules Coronavirus has forced them to.

Probably won’t be able to catch today’s ceremony live, so enjoy it for me.

PM Shinzo Abe says the Tokyo Games will go ahead (of course this could still change but it appears the virus has shifted from Asia to Europe now):

Abe remains delusional while 63% of Japanese would prefer to have the Olympics postponed.

Only 23% would want them to be held as planned.

I hope IOC decide it later in May. If decision made by current situation, it must be postponed. But what if it’s contained in May, it’s still possible.

on the Italian press there are strong rumors that next Thurday, after the meet with the International Federations of the Olympic Sports, IOC President Thomas Bach (himself an Olympic Champion in Fencing in 1976, to be remembered :p ) will announce that the Tokyo Olympic Games are postponed to 2022...:yikes:

The biggest thing here is that Bach apparently was an Olympic champion in fencing in 1976, who knew! :yikes:

I don't think that will be much of a problem. Two years are more than enough for the qualifications. They will just start right after Tokyo.
