and in Germany (where public broadcasters ARD/ZDF definitively called themselves out from the competition) they already announced their program for Pyeongchang 2018...

in GER they will show the 2018 games on 2 of their FTA channels + the 2 Eurosport paid channels + the Eusp360 service...which is always a perfect coverage, but it's still a mostly paid offer...and many fans don't like that...

That's from a very old post and since ARD and ZDF will broadcast anyway, it doesn't really matter. But Eurosport 1 is no pay TV in Germany. It's free TV, here.

  • 5 weeks later...

I might be a little late to the party, but have you guys seen that maybe Equestrian will have Teams with athletes from different nations in 2020? From what I understood, athletes from nations that haven't qualified a full team will have a chance to take part in the team events, being part of mixed-NOCs groups.

The information was "confirmed" by a FEI member (Luiz Roberto Giugni, former president of the brazilian federation), who says this will definitely happen in 2020. Article (in portuguese).

Well, that's in contradiction with the proposed qualification systems. Systems for all 3 disciplines say that maximum number of teams (NOCs) is the total number of quota places on offer on various qualification events.

Maybe that was just a proposal from one or two federation? I know that NFs had opportunity to revert on FEI proposals (deadline was couple of days ago).

No, it won't :p

Even tons of Mixed Team Relays and eSports at the Olympics are better in my mindset than mixed NOC events. When I look at the medal table, I want to see countries' flags and not a white flag with Olympic rings or "ANA".

So I disapprove of that idea even though Equestrian is the Olympic sport I care about least to begin with. :p

Sure :p Mixed nations events are the wrost idea that the IOC have ever had...

Nope. Adding way too many mixed team events in every sport imaginable (and in doing so, 'deleting' good individual events or good single-gender events) is closer to being the worst idea the IOC ever had, much worse than an event in which unqualified nations could theoretically form a few teams.

    • In my opinion, the maximum period in power should be 8 years. Next to, it's already too long, especially since Hungary's economy is much weaker than earlier. Just as Italy has too many changes of government, Orbán's 16 years in power is definitely too long for me. Perhaps only Erdogan and Putin have ruled in Europe longer, but those are semi-dictatorships.    In the USA, just about two weeks before the election, bookmakers were betting heavily on Trump, from what I remember good. They were more wrong in 2016 with Trump and Clinton – then, Clinton was expected to win clearly until the very end.
    • Fraud hopefully not, it's true that everyone says it will be like 50-50% as far as the winner is concerned. Hopefully the moron (ov) loses but honestly don't know what will happen.  My main concern is that it was said about the 2024 US election that it will be very close and then what happened... (I mean hopefully these opinion polls are more reliable than the American ones)
    • According to our bookmakers, Orban could lose after so long time, but I've read that there may be electoral fraud. What do you think?
    • Good to know there will be a women's hockey wch in Budapest this year. Admittedly I was out of the loop for many sports recently (only followed the winter sports world cup circuit prior to the Olympics and not everything from there even) According to Wikipedia the first day of the competition will be Election Day (12 April) Hopefully this will not be a bad omen for any of the teams involved....
    • This year, Italy will play against Slovakia in the women's hockey World Championships in Budapest in April. Who do you think will be the favorite?
    • Don´t want to speak about Slovak politics amigo. They all were, are and will be greedy, uneducated and corrupted bastards. Point.   Back to sport. We suck as hell, but we know it, However, that´s not a reason to not enjoy the Olympics, it is a once in a 4 years time holiday of sport

    • In that time in Poland was ruled by a some center-right government with the support of liberals but a president was a post-communist. It seems to me that in Poland, the president has much more power than in Italy or Slovakia. Btw., during the Yanukovych era, Ukraine also wanted to organize the Winter Olympics in Lviv in 2022
