What's the difference, when you have 10 lights above, turning red or green if the target is missed or met?

There is a huge difference, really. Shooting in biathlon is much more appealing compared to sport shooting and modern pentathlon. It's physical - you can see the bullets hitting targets (in slow motion at least), you can see targets being moved, you can hear the sound. Not just a sound of a shot being fired, but also a sound of target being hit or missed. When camera zooms you can see where exactly the bullets have hit or missed.

Sport shooting is just following live scores, and modern penathlon is following lights. Boring. Pointless. It's really no wonder that biathlon is incomparable to those sports in terms of fan following.

So... Biathlon shooting >>>>>>>>>>>>> Other shooting.

Can not really be described any better than this :d

Plus, the pure magic sound of the first shooting bout at a mass start (or close pursuit)

Or the target practice during the first moments of a broadcast. Nothing gets me more hyped for a major race.

You should see that in person, then it's more than only the first minutes of the broadcast. Whistle or something by some official, everyone getting ready and then this magic sound for a half hour or so.

I did sir, your memory appears to be failing you at this old age of yours. It was honestly crazy to see how fast they go from causal warmup to, oh shit that was the start.

As @dcro already mentioned, one of the biggest factors of laser shooting in biathlon is the fact that the wind would not affect the beam. More technical shooters and athletes that read the wind conditions well would be punished with this change. There would no longer be fun in Oberhof and things like the Belgian relay being in first place after two exchanges would rarely happen. The coaches that enthusiastically run with boards to show where the shots have landed would run with less enthusiasm. Gontier would go up higher than 40% accuracy in the relays and a lot of other narratives would be lost.

New media guide is up now as well.

Great, two of the four Brazilians mentioned in it won't even compete biathlon this winter (or go to Europe at all)

On the bright side: finally, finally, finally (our now very own) @brunamoura is in it again (after 2016/17) :cheer:
