For the first time in 16 years there won't be an ex-YUG country in the WCh final. The last final like that was won by us against Italy in 2003.

Wow, interesting fact.

Last 15 years it was just battle between Serbia and Croatia, and others were fighting for that 2nd place. Hungary declining(up until now), Montenegro declining, Spain and Italy solid as always.

Now we should have very interesting final. Its good for water polo.

I have no clue what to expect from us, I feel like we can win the whole thing, but we can also just flop and end up with a 4th place.

Thrid completely unnecessary loss for the german team, very sad. This team could have done something special. :wall:

People really underestimate Spain. Great team with great players and they play great after the debacle in the WCh 2017. Serbia beat them at EC in the final after PSO. But pity that they have Croatia in SF.. Probably no chance for final and quota here.

But wow, they beat Croatia.

Note to self: next time you say someone probably has no chance, all my money goes on them.

.

Yikes. Another weak performance. I am afraid that the Olympic qualification won't be easy for us.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
