1) Why did that need to be proven?

2) I think others like Alia Atkinson, Malia Metella, Cullen Jones have already "proven" that before her.

because of the stereo types that black can't win in swimming , it's a sport for white and yes there were good black swimmers before manuel , but ofc they didn't reach what this girl has reached , she's now Olympic and world champion in an individual event and she's double world champion in an individual event now , so she's simply smashing these stereotypes

The IM legend did it again :champion:champion of the 400 IM for the 5th time ...the 4th consecutive and becomes the first woman to do this in the world championships history (well she has already done it in 200 IM)

Katinka now is the second most gold medallist in individuals events with 9 (Ledecky has 11 - Sjostrom 8)

Glad that Shiwen is back, really disappointing for Pickrem though.

Kalisz maybe but Lochte i don't think so ..Seto is 10 years younger than him besides his long absence

I think Lochte will focus on the 200 IM, we don't know what he can do while only focusing on one event.

I think no (but it's a close race between her and Cynthia Woodhead, 1978 200m free champion...it's just a question of a few days, as Pilato was born on January 2005 and Woodhead in February 1964 and also the championships this year are around 1 month before than what happened in Berlin 41 years ago -when they started on August 20th)...:mumble:

however, at the Olympic Games, the Japanese Kyoko Iwasaki won the 200m breaststroke in Barcelona (1992) when she was only 14 years and 6 days young, so almost 6 months younger than Pilato and Woodhead...

and also Krisztina Egerszegi was younger (14 years and 40 days) when she won the 200m backstroke in Seoul (1988)...

I only checked the first world championships so far (1973) and already found a younger (gold) medallist: Ulrike Richter won two gold medals at the 1973 world championships while being 14 years and a bit over 2 months old, so she was clearly younger than Pilato, won 2 medals instead of one and won gold instead of silver. There could very well be other younger medallists.
