FIVB making revolutionary changes in its calendar, WCh qualifications and Olympic qualifications

https://www.fivb.com/en/about/news/volleyball-calendar-2025-2028-approved-by-the-fivb?id=100917

for 2028 Olympic 2026 Continental Champs will act as the Continental qualifiers. to me that's too early , 2 years before the Games?

I wouldn't call it a revolutionary change in the calendar. They haven't done anything, bar adding an additional WC.

Which is funny given the sentence from the article "These adjustments are part of the FIVB’s ongoing efforts to streamline the international volleyball calendar, aiming to enhance the overall fan experience while prioritizing the health and wellbeing of the athletes" Nothing screams "athletes health" like adding more competitions.

Now during Olympic years, they would kill 2 competitions - the Nations league before them, because all teams would be preparing for the OG and then Continental Championships after it, because the big teams would have given their all at the OG.

If they wanted to make a revolutionary change, then they should have moved the VNL from it's current slot.

Won't even commentate the lack of proper Olympic qualification and the absurd world rankings.

I think the new qualification system is much better than the old one. At least we will very  likely see 10 best team plus host plus African Champion at the olympics.

So 15 of the 32 world championship teams will be selected by the world ranking. That's awful.

The 5 continental champions will qualify to the Olympics. That's good, but could be better.

@phelps Italy won the senior World Champs, you can afford losing junior titles :d

winning the 2019 event didn't turn out good for our volleyball. :d that coach took credit for that team (which he didn't deserve, that team had 4-5 players already in the senior team) he is now the current senior NT head coach and you can see the current mess he created.

few of these guys have the potential to be in the senior NT soon but they seriously need to change their behavior. acting like a jerk won't get you anywhere.

we had some funny story in this competition. Iran almost lost to Tunisia in the 2nd day had to come back from 2 sets down to win the tiebreak but at the end of the competition Iran finished 1st and Tunisia finished 16th (last) :d:d

Our girls are in the semifinals of the European U17s. They won all 7 matches in their group. It's a pretty big deal because we are not really a good volleyball country.

They also won the Balkan U17s recently, beating several strong teams along the way.

    • Agreed. But OTOH, the chances of a Male Team pursuit medal also seem rather slim at the moment, so why the hassle of dropping someone.
