(s)he was already in Doha's world final, but it looks it was a lot of time ago (and she/he wasn't good enough for the medals, so there was no attention as it will happen this year)

however, shitstorm coming in 3, 2, 1...

The highlight of Day 2 of the Greek Nationals was Tentoglou's 8.38 EL, which gave him the Olympic qualification. Still, he seemed disappointed because he wanted a bigger jump. There was a decent crowd to watch him though:

Also in the men's long jump, 20 yo Stamatonikolos won silver with a PB of 7.86, and 19 yo Chitas was 4th with a PB of 7.50.

The other big star of the day was Stefanidi, who won gold with a SB of 4.61. Polak (4.46) and Kyriakopoulou (4.35) were the other medalists, each with SBs as well. They both got important points for Budapest and will hope to repeat that at the Balkan Championships.

Kyriazis won the men's javelin with 79.61, and Scarvelis won the women's hammer with 68.83. Both got important ranking points as they try to make it to Budapest. Same with Gnafaki who won the women's 400 hurdles with 56.69.

The men's high jump saw Merlos and 18 yo Mita each with 2.19. For Mita, it was a new PB.

In the women's long jump, the top 6 all finished above 6m (which is very good for our standards), and the winner was Koreneva with 6.43. Unfortunately, she is still waiting for Greek citizenship despite living here for many years and being married to a Greek.

Long Jump World and Olympic Champion Malaika Mihambo injured herself on the fermur during her fourth attempt at the National Championships in Kassel. :(

She jumped 6.93 twice! Looks to be in good form. If it is a femur injury that likely means she's out of the World Championships.

There is a cautious all-clear. An ultrasound examination did not reveal a tear in the thigh. It could have just been a hardening.

    • For the summary and lowlights of Thailand's preparation in hosting the ongoing Sea Games, I kindly suggest those who are interested to read from this English language article from Thai media outlet, Thai Enquirer: https://www.thaienquirer.com/63469/thailands-sea-games-2025-under-fire-budget-management-and-technical-controversies/
    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
