Still not that far off of your PB's, which, considering you're (I assume) not a professional with a professional coaching team around you to time everything to the right week, is definitely an excellent performance I'd say :)

Yeah I guess, but I have such high expectations for myself. I know I can do better than that.

@heywoodu weren’t you from somewhere near this town? I just left it after a short race there and I think I heard about it from the TISC, but I might be mistaken

It depends on your definition of near :d

Roughly half an hour or so by car, but also barely 5 minutes from my work's office in Amersfoort :p  I don't think I have ever mentioned Hoevelaken, but it is something you might hear a lot on the radio in the traffic jam reports.

Also, how was your race? :d

It was leuk! :D

nothing special, just doing some 5km races here and there as a way to enjoy the weather and "visit" new places. I did went last weekend to cycle on the Houtribdijk (the one between the Markermeer and Ijsselmeer), and that was fun, there were even people in a beach in the middle of the dijk, which has to be one of the most dutch things ever haha (going to a beach in a dike i mean).

Cool :d

If you're ever in roughly the area north of the line Amersfoort - Apeldoorn and you see someone cycling on a bright green Cube mountainbike, chances are it's me :p (chance is even bigger if a smaller person on a white Cube mountainbike is accompanying said person and both are wearing black/red/blue :d)

A new year also means a new season for me.

After my half marathon I registered for another in september where my target was cutting 5 minutes from my PB but a nasty fall 1½ week before made it impossible.

Got back about a month later and started training for a 5 KM PB just before christmas. It felt great before I was caught by a nasty flu/Covid or whatever in the beginning of december. Kept me out for the first half of the month, but I did manage to get 4 good runs within the last 2 weeks of december.

It's feeling fine, so tomorrow I start working towards a 10km PB in the middle of March and a good half marathon PB in the summer (hoping for a 1.45, but I wont set a target before I see how the next months work out).

Have my first small races set up with one in january and one in february.

Keep it up @Agger!!

I've also got some athletics new years resolutions, I'm beginning to train for my first triathlon. I've already got a second hand road bike and I'm joining a weekly swimming group next week, alongside my regular running. I'm hoping to do a 1/4 or Olympic Distance triathlon in the summer.

Still training for my first triathlon and I'm really struggling with swimming every week, this isn't going to be as easy as I had hoped.

Meanwhile the running is still going well! Ran my second sub-40 10K today: 39:21 in a local event! My PB is still 38:45 from last year, but that was definitely out of reach despite the perfect weather conditions today.

I am planning to do a virtual 10K for this challenge on the night of Aug.10, for my birthday and to coincide with the public 10K night run in Paris. Hopefully all the yummy food and late nights in Paris in late July for me don't completely take away my legs :)

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
