I see no one from US has responded to this.  I've tried to come up with a list of most significant/infamous US moments across Olympic history, not my 5 moments.

    1.  Jesse Owens 4 gold medals in 1936.
    2.  1980 US Ice Hockey team (although I personally believe the 1960 ice hockey team was a greater sports accomplishment).
    3.  1972 US Basketball team.
    4.  1994 Womens figures skating.
    5.  Frank Shorter 1972 Marathon (because it really triggered the running revolution in the US).

This thread popped up for me and since the last post was from a Canadian, I thought I'd pipe in (2 years later).

    #1 and #3 - absolutely.

#2 - hate to say it, but yes. Every Canadian (at least those over 30) know the name "Ben Johnson". But that's what made Donovan Bailey even sweeter in 1996.

#4 - I don't know. Of course most Canadians today know Virtue and Moir, they are on commercials and we all love them. Just not sure if this one routine makes the list. There are so many great Canadian figure skaters and figure skating moments in Canada. I grew up with Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko. Then there's Joannie Rochette's emotional bronze in 2010 after her mother passed away.

#5 - I personally enjoyed this, and the penalty kick comeback makes it an easy highlight reel. But we need time to pass before it makes the the list.

    Possible nominations for the list:

Many of these are older, so it's just about generations, I guess.

-Crosby's Golden Goal will forever be #1. However, the golds in 2002 by both our men's and women's teams were crazy huge. First gold for the men in 50 years, while the women got revenge for 1998. I was in the streets in Montreal after the 2002 men's win and it was nuts till the early morning.

-Schmirler the Curler winning the first curling gold in 1998. At the time Canada didn't win many golds, even at the WOG. With the men's curling and both hockey teams failing to win that year, this was our pride and joy.

-Sylvie Frechette getting silver in synchro swimming in 1992 after a judge's error. The Brazilian judge accidentally pressed the wrong number (8.7 instead of 9.7) pushing Frechette down to silver. Despite alerting the officials right away it took a year and a half for the IOC to finally give her the gold. To make matters worse, she came home to find her boyfriend who had committed suicide shortly before the Olympics.

-The Dufour-Lapointe sisters getting gold and silver in 2014 in moguls. Their other sister got 12th.

-To stick with Moguls, Alexandre Bilodeau winning Canada's first gold on home soil in their 3rd home Games, with his brother cheering along in the crowd.

-When TV channels would sign off for the night back in the old days () CBC would play Greg Joy's silver medal performance in high jump from 1976. I was actually born after that took place, but I remember as a kid seeing that jump late at night on TV.

-Ross Rebagliati won gold in the first snowboard event in 1998, then had it taken away because he tested positive for marijuana, then got it back because the COC protested that marijuana was not a banned substance. Everyone laughed that of course the snowboarder was a pothead. People my age remember this well since Rebagliati's defence that he must have inhaled secondhand pot at a party became a rallying cry of every teenager for years to come.

Great that they’ll be streaming pretty much everything, but I hope they’ll have separate streams for track and all the various field events at Paris. Most the time on athletics streams they only show replays of field events, it’s rarely ever live. Canada has medal potential in both, and I wouldn’t want to miss anything live.

Also hope that Brittany MacLean will be at Paris for swimming.

Edit: Just messaged with Devin, the field events will have live streams as well.

Approaching 100 days to go, my predictions for
    Day 1
    20:55: Swimming - Women’s 400m Freestyle Final - Summer McIntosh (Silver)
    21:37: Swimming - Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final - (Bronze)

Bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle if she chooses to do the double. She’ll have almost an hour and a half between both so it seems doable (but she’s also probably going to be swimming a rigorous schedule so maybe she’ll skip it)

    22:34: Boxing - Women’s 75kg Gold Medal Bout - Tammara Thibeault (Gold)

Left off some other medal chances, think at least one other name/team that I haven’t mentioned will make the podium. Still very optimistic with this prediction considering our best ever result is 24 medals at Tokyo (I picked 30 events for Canada to win medals in) but we have a talent in McIntosh now.

    Guadalajara Challenge | Guadalajara, Mexico

    Women’s Tournament
    Gold-  Esmee Bobner/Zoe Verge-Depre
    Silver-  Agatha Bednarczuk/Rebecca Silva
    Bronze-  Heather Bansley/Sophie Bukovec

With Bobner/Verge-Depre’s gold medal here, the race for Switzerland’s two Olympic spots is heating up.

Did some calculations, Huberli/Brunner now lead with 7560 points (and have a finish to record), Bobner/Verge-Depre are now on 7460 points, and Mader/Verge-Depre stay on 7140 points as they had a bad week losing in the qualies.

Likely will be a battle between them and the Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Mader/Verge-Depre (Esmee’s sister) as the Olympic Ranking is very tight between the three and Huberli/Brunner still have one finish to record (while the other two are trying to replace their poor finishes). But I wouldn’t pencil in Huberli/Brunner’s qualification just yet.

    Men’s Tournament
    Gold-  Trevor Crabb/Theodore Brunner
    Silver-  Lukas Pfretzschner/Sven Winter
    Bronze-  Evandro Goncalves/Arthur Lanci

Diaz/Alayo continue on their hot streak, but fall just off the podium in 4th. Very surprising podium for Pfretzschner/Winter, if they can sustain this type of form in the upcoming months it’ll see them as one of the pairings in contention for an Olympic spot through the European Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament.

    Any day (0-2 medals)
Surprise medals: preferrably Niels Laros (M 1500m) and W handball or volleyball team (what can I say, the more surprising the better)

    Total prediction (19-47 medals)
    +/- 10 golds
    +/- 11 silvers
    +/- 12 bronze

I feel like the day-by-day version made the numbers too optimistic. Some names I'm thinking more like 'one out of these 4 judoka's will probably win a medal', but it shows as a medal chances on 4 days, instead of just 1 expected medal.
Overall I'm a bit more optimistic than the 25 medals I predicted last time, I'll say 30 medals this time!
