Italy love naturalize volleyball players ;) 馃槈

if they come here to learn to play better and make a lot of money they wouldn't get anywhere else, why not asking them to play also for our NT?

however, almost every naturalized player that played for our NT (in every sport) came here to live all of their life also after they stop playing professional sport (and in fact we also have a lot of sons/daughters of former players that played for different NTs like Zaytsev or Travica, for instance, whose fathers played for URS and YUG respectively)

it's not that we're just buying their sport performance as many other Nations do

p.s. Antropova's story is way different and I explained it in the previous post ;)

Every rare :SVK win in a non-ice hockey team sport major tournament deserve a mention :p

First win and first 3 points to the tally after today麓s :SVK - :FIN 3-0 win

Eventually One more win and we may advance from the group, which was the "secretly-hoped" goal

Actually, Slovakia has a very good chance to get 3rd place in group, after :NED and :FRA :p I'm very confident you will beat Estonia, while the match with Spain will be more equal. But you beat Spain already in qualification, so it could go either way. I'm setting my sight on a good :BUL - :SVK 1/8. :bones:

We are making awful, awful mistakes today, just like we did against Croatia yesterday. Our play is very up and down..:dunno: They make 5 straight great points and then 3-4 junior level errors. Bosnia isn't a caliber opponent where this makes a difference, unlike the Nations League earlier in summer, where this costed us 2-3 wins.

Normally :NED should win this group, but they are playing awful volleyball against Spain. A narrow escape in the first (25-23) and far behind in the second. So many mistakes. Very poor level.

Bad result for us today, 0-3 against the hosts Germany. We had some set points in the third set but could not do it. I thought we had a good chance to win going into the match.

Also, I'm not sure why Vasilantonaki isn't on the team this year :mumble:

Decent results in recent friendlies, for example we played 4 sets vs Bulgaria just a couple weeks ago and won all four of them (whereas they beat us 3-0 at the European Championships in both 2019 and 2021). In general our team seems to have improved over the past few years, mainly due to our teenage star Martha Anthouli (2.02 cm) leading the way now.

    • Oh, how nice, i didn't know. Yes, we like Italians very much, similar emotionality? Ways of expressing? Sth like this. As to Russia and Germany. The things they had really done to us are pretty unbelievable and unforgivable. I think that most people in Europe know this in theory, we felt it in reality. But we still try not to cross borders, we don't live with hatered. Maybe we should. When my mom was telling me real facts from WWII in Poland well...i was close to be ready for revenge on some Germans. But its not Polish charachteristic, maybe our mistake. And yes, Poland was peaceful internaly up to some 2007/8. Then PiS started to divide this nation, telling who is Polish who is not etc. You are either a real Pole Cathol or traitor left wing gay. Luckily they had lost but our nation is strongly divided, like two nations. We all miss this all united Poland but are living like enemies. Probably foreigners are free of this but Poland has changed through those years. Italy seems to be lovely place to live. Not ideal, impossible, but lovely. 馃憤

    • My family on my mother's side comes from Poland, we spent a few holidays there when we were kids. At the beginning of the 21st century it was a pretty cool country, but only now do you see how much Warsaw, for example, has developed. Certainly, Poland has always had a rather bad location on the map and hence a difficult history, but the last 20 years have been very good for it. There is still a negative sentiment for countries like Germany or Russia, for example, it is visible during sports games, when these countries are not the favorites of polish fans :P I think that polish-italian relations as positive - I don't even mean politics, but generally in the feelings of ordinary people. If a survey were to be conducted in Italy, Poland would probably be in the top of the most liked nations. In Poland, I have also always been and still am quite pleasantly received as an Italian.

    • It would be nice to think of a way to do this that makes hosting it a bit easier. I mean, as a participant it is definitely lots of fun, but it is truly insane how much time hosting it can cost, even with the always massive amounts of help you get from people like @OlympicIRL.
