The 2022 Mediterranean Games must have given Algeria some street credit in the international sports world because I’m seeing some Algerian news outlets reporting the country will resurrect and host the Pan Arab Games this summer. I couldn’t find anything specific on the UANOC website, but there was a Arabic press release posted to Twitter that I couldn’t translate, so maybe there’s some news about it on there @thepharoah @tuniscof @amen09?

Japanese host of 2026 Asian Games scraps plan for athletes village

The organizing committee for the 2026 Asian Games has decided to scrap a plan to build an athletes village to trim costs. Japan's Aichi Prefecture will host most of the events.

The decision was made at the committee's executive board meeting in the prefecture's Nagoya City on Monday.

At the meeting, Aichi Governor Ohmura Hideaki, the committee's president, said large sports events paid for with taxpayers' money are being more closely scrutinized than ever following scandals related to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Apparently there are issues with the 2027 Pan Am Games

The host city has till July 31 to commit to them, or they will lose it.

After the U20 World Cup fiasco, here is an update from the ANOC World Beach Games: the Indonesian NOC invited all CdM from the participating countries except the Israeli CdM for a meeting

What’s interesting is that most of the opinion polls I’ve seen from Latin American media show large support for Ukraine, and low support for Russia.

:VEN could be putting themselves at odds with the rest of the Pan American NOCs here…

Finswimming will be added to the core sports program of the Mediterranean Games. Rowing will be re-included as well.

It’s also likely there will be more mixed events in 2026. The CIJM wants bring the events program in line with the Olympics (not sure if this will lead to combined events in weightlifting for instance).

Well, apparently there is some talk about Poland and Slovakia looking to bid for the Nordic Skiing World Championships together :coffee: @hckošice

Not like anything will come out of this but...

I assume only Cross-Country Skiing here, right ? :p

Well, Štrbské Pleso has the capacity to create more challenging cross-country skiing tracks meeting even the most stricter FIS criteria. That wouldn´t be such a problem, just a question of "financial impulse from somewhere", but the second thing is the willingness to do it, I don´t think that such an interest (for "only" the Nordic Skiing WCh) would be relevant in the foreseeable future here though :p

Sambo will be added to the main sports program of the The World Games 2025. I believe all the sports that featured in 2022 will stay on the program as well.

The LOC has shortlisted the following sports for the invitational sports program: American Football (Flag Football), Cheerleading, Dragon Boat, Duathlon, Freestyle Inline.

I believe one (or maybe more) of the following para sports will be included as well: Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Dance, Para Ju-Jitsu, Freediving Disabled.

The IWGA also mentioned a proposal regarding Powerboating in the article, but the status of that seems unclear to me.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
