World Aquatics is pushing (again) to enter the 50m strokes to the program

I wonder what other events other federations are currently lobbying for

I wish there was more transparancy around this.

I don't believe we ever even found out what all the disciplines that applied for 2028 were.

Yes, that would be great... I don't really understand the need for secrecy neither.

IIRC, 17 'disciplines' (in IOC jargon) were proposed for LA, but i was never revealed which ones.

You see... Every federation will push for more additional events. Everyone of them based on various arguments. Thats why i am in favor of a strict number of core sports-events.

IOC reduces events in some sports but allows various sports to enter olympic program according to host desire . Then these federations will claim their sport's success and they are gonna ask to stay as core sports..Then IOC must find further events to cut in order to keep a level of number of total athletes, but at the same time fedrations keep asking for increase in events. And Olympics are expanding constantly and becoming more costly and maybe in future no country will wish to host them. Its a cycle without an end ..

I think that exactly what Bach had in minds when he came up with idea of additional sports for Tokyo :teacher:

At least, Rogge managed to keep in check the sports program.

Athletics probably tried with Cross Country; Handball for sure proposed Beach Handball, Gymnastics probably tried with Tumbling and Acrobatic, Swimming with High Diving and Archery with Compound

France did replace Karate with Breakdance!

that's unforgivable...it's worse than any Lacrosse/Flag Football/Rugby Legue IX might appear in the next future on the Olympic stage...it's "THE" Capital mistake :bones:

    • awful... the track is as fast (slow) as in Hamar Meike Veen skated the same time in the 1500m and Serena Pergher did the same in the 500m I think by February it will be even faster
    • I like the concept of this Festival of Music! I will also share a couple of Christmas songs from Spain's TISC Open 2024 representative David Bisbal.   The first one 'Los peces en el río' (The fish in the river) is a flamenco/pop cover of a traditional villancico originated in the 1500s and the second one 'Todo es posible en Navidad' (All is possible in Christmas) was relased last year.   Los peces en el río   Todo es posible en Navidad   I hope you like them and have a wonderful holiday season!
    • you don't even have idea how it works   last week he was the best of the field and now he's in bad shape?   on Friday he was 24th despite 4 (4!!!!!) missed shots and Yesterday he suddenly went out of shape?   be serious!   he either just had bad skis or he got sick, like many other athletes (see Vittozzi)   the snow in LGB is usually shit, results are always heavily influenced by that and Italy is one of the teams that usually struggle a lot in that place   nothing new and nothing to be worried about
    • Don't look now but the Bears might actually win the division in Ben Johnson's first season as HC...
    • Festival of Music   For this year’s Festival of Music I thought I would change it up a bit. Since we are approaching the festive holiday season, I want you all to post some festive songs from your country. If you don’t celebrate Christmas then perhaps some other song that has a special place in your heart during an important celebration.     I’m going to start with a Christmas song from Ireland’s TISC Annual 2023 representatives Picture This.     Picture This - This Christmas
    • pair Danilova/Tsiba hasn't fulfilled the national criteria to participate in the Games but their skating federation has sent a request to the national olympic committee for an exception and to include them to the TeamNL. https://www.schaatsen.nl/nieuws/knsb-dient-verzoek-in-voor-olympisch-startbewijs-danilova-tsiba/
    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final
