Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)

Recommended Posts

Pretty interesting that McLaren's online database has a danish athlete (athletics) in it who tested positive for EPO. The danish athletics federation don't remember any danes testing positive for that.

Absolutely, 3 people got knocked out of the tournament by him and so were robbed of a chance. But how would you propose the medals to be redistributed? I mean, we can't let some fights be fought again (like Avila vs the Chinese guy as semi)..

At least it's easier than in sports with the weird repechage systems like the other combat sports.

no fair solution :(

True, but letting someone who tested positive keep the medal is probably the most unfair solution of all.

Latvia is boycotting the IBSF worlds.

The bobsleigh federation has published a statement as well? So far I only saw it from the skeleton federation, which is apparently another thing there.

A member of Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team in Rio Bashir Babajanzadeh (130kg) tested positive for doping and received 4 years ban from UWW but not for the Olympics but the last event before the Olympics. ! (Greco World Cup in Iran) I guess this will disqualify his result in Rio as well (even though he was terrible and lost in QF) this makes him the 2nd Iranian ever at the Olympics to get his results disqualified for a doping violation. :(

that was a shame, considering his age and this 4 years ban we will never see him again on the mat "hopefully"

New list from IOC !

https://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-sanctions-eight-athletes-for-failing-anti-doping-test-at-beijing-2008-and-london-2012

:CHN Lei CAO - 2008 - Weightlifting (Women's 75kg) - Gold medal

:CHN Xiexia CHEN - 2008 - Weightlifting (Women's 48kg) - Gold medal

:CHN Chunhong LIU - 2008 - Weightlifting (Women's 69kg) - Gold medal

:BLR Nadzeya OSTAPCHUK - 2008 - Athletics (Women's shot put) - Bronze medal

:BLR Darya PCHELNIK - 2008 - Athletics (Women's hammer throw)

:TUR Sibel SIMSEK - 2012 - Weightlifting (Women's 63kg)

:AZE Intigam ZAIROV - 2012 - Weightlifting (Men's 94kg)

:ARM Norayr VARDANYAN - 2012 - Weightlifting (Men's 94kg)

if I'm not wrong IOC talked about 101 positive results in re-testing, (so far) now with this they already sanctioned 96 cases. which mean 5 more remaining.

I have lived to see a China doping ban, is this real life :yikes: Everyone knew there was so much shady bussiness in 08 then and still 10 years after, but to actually see something done is quite surprising.

Also with the ban of Simsek, we will get a third medal from Beijing. :yes

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
