Women's Volleyball FIVB World Championship 2022

What is the point of having same teams playing in QF as they played in main round? Can't FIVB for once make a reasonable format? At this rate I am gonna miss the third round final six lol

Because it's played in 2 countries a thousand km apart all the way to semis and they want to minimize the number of teams traveling in the final stages.

naaaa...it's because Italy so far have been less than convincing (still, we won all the games, especially the hard fight against Belgium) and because of the stupid rules of the championship (the fact that the quarterfinals won't be a crossover with the opposite pool, but teams will have to play again the same already seen in the main round)...

this makes it a lot more "tactical" and it might be better losing the main round match before the replay in the knockout stage...

by the way, good luck and enjoy the afternoon...;)

so thats why maybe USA didnt use 2 key players against serbia (without this meaning that serbia's win is devalued)

Not only QF, but also SF I think, meaning we'll only have different matches in final/3rd place.

yeah, that's highly likely...these preliminary stages are like a poker game with the rules in place...

These second pool rounds make the tournaments feel like a slow grind instead of an exciting all-or-nothing moment, like say a football or athletics world championship.

Anyway, happy to see another win for the Dutch and especially happy that our coach finally let Dambrink play multiple full sets. Dambrink is younger, better and more varied than Plak. All Plak has over her is experience and past performances, but right now Dambrink is simply the better option tbh.

Our girls had their chances with Serbia, especially in first set, but as expected they did lost 0-3, QF seems to be not possible now, but tbh I didn't expected anything more from them.

:BRA 3-2 :ITA

Both teams played below their potential, especially Italy, but it was still a great achievement.

And what a spectacular game by Gabi. :bowdown:

Wait, no round of 16? Just another set of pool matches?

I have little to no interest in volleyball nowadays, and this system takes all the fun from the event, in my opinion.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
    • Voted  Thank you for extending the deadline and allowing me to vote once my exams are over. @OlympicIRL
