Women's Field Hockey FIH World Cup 2018

I read today that China didn't take here their full squad, opting to save players for the Asian Games. Maybe that can explain their dismal performance so far.

It would make sense, since Asian Games are an Olympic Qualifier

Our team is beyond pathetic.

13 PC no goal, opponent 1 shot and it's goal :facepalm:this tournament is probably going to be the worst disappointment of argentine sport since football WC 2002.

and now you have to face NZL in the cross-over to the quarterfinals (with AUS waiting for the winner of that)...

not an easy route, then...

meanwhile, since GBR wasted their chance to win their preliminary group (and assuming they end up 2nd, not making any "trick" to go down to a more favourable 3rd position), we could have a bracket with ITA (I don't see them winning against NED, even if the Dutch girls fall asleep on the pitch during the game) vs USA (this US team ) or IND...and the winner of that going against IRL in the quarterfinals, which means that almost surely we're going to have a big time surprising team in the top 4 at the end of the tournament...

p.s. very entertaining game last night between AUS and NZL...

and people compaine how competitive is women's water polo :p

I do think this is, generally speaking, not even remotely comparable with the barrage of 15/20+ margins in the water polo :p

    • It's close between Mexico and Venezuela. Mexico probably has the better pitching but I think Venezuela is far superior when it comes to star power. They have pretty much all their top guys on offense besides Altuve.   I did accidentally forget Cuba. Call me crazy but I'm placing them 7th behind Panama. Panama is my dark horse team for the tournament and Cuba isn't looking too pretty these days to be honest especially on offense although Canada, Panama and Cuba are all probably roughly in the same tier. Maybe Puerto Rico as well since they're missing their 3 best players on offense.

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
