Poor guy precisely just missed men's event. Hope he shows free skating program in the gala.

I'm guessing his COVID case is why he was chosen, otherwise you'd think Brown would get that pick. Either way, makes sense to give him one more skate, hopefully he'll have some fun.

Keegan Messing being chosen for the gala is probably the best thing that will happen to Canadian figure skating all games xD

(Yes Canada looks not all unlikely to get a bronze team medal, but there will be so many asterisks next to it you can't really call it an accomplishment)

If China knows the Kamila drama will happen, it would definitely made all effort to be the original 4th which may be a bronze medal in the end.

Ya, had China put Sui and Han for the free the result would have been different, but why risk them fighting for 4th?

lol im surprised. No offence to anyone, but figure skating is by far the "worst" of the winter sports. Absolutely unwatachable. I am quite happy I don't have to watch any minute of it as Canada is was/not expected to be competitive.

If Canada was competitive, you would have to watch it, despite not liking it, or what? :p

I mean, the Netherlands might have been super competitive in dressage at one point, I just don't get it and so why would I watch :d

I do wonder if the IOC worry CAS will side with Russia and have made sure it has all gone public to put pressure on them. We all know CAS is not the strongest on doping bans at times.

Bleh, so Sadovsky is maybe coming away with a medal despite the Olympic participation that will probably give him nightmares for some time.

She tested positive way back at the Russian Nationals. Almost two months ago.

And it very much seems like the RUSADA swept it under the rug whilst only informing Valieva's coaching team and not Valieva herself...

Makes me wonder if some at Rusada want Russia banned from sports. It might suit Putin to use Russia being banned as an excuse to I say the world is biased again Russia.

In fact i think the IOC could lose any hope for anyone wanting to bid for 2030 if Russia are not expelled permanently from international sports.

Surley Rusda knew yesterday the IOC would appeal. Maybe that was the plain. Politically it suits Putin for it be dealt with by non Russians not Rusda.

You can't be serious. No matter what happens, doping cases don't influence the Olympic bidding at all.

And you are expecting way too much if you think that this will end with a full Russia ban. There's a good chance that there won't even be a DSQ and they will keep the gold, they will fight very hard for this at CAS.

IOC will have to at least push it or more sponsors will withdraw and countries will talk about setting up an alternative Olympics instead.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
    • and Artistic Gymnastics is "Sporting Gymnastics" while Rythmic Gymnastics is god know why "Modern Gymnastics"
