Alpine Skiing at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022

FIS ruins alpines combination more and more.

 

1. Qualification for this competition which cause that there are only 27 athletes

 

2. Not reverse order! I think better will be to use order for downhill in downhill and order for slalom in slalom as it was originally.

 

3. Our commenators says that president FIS do not like watching downhill specialist in slalom. Why not? I like it. The same as slalom specialist in downhill

I want the combined preserved in some form because there should be an Olympic event for the all-rounders. The most important prize in the sport is the overall world cup, there should be an event at major championship that is tailored to the kind of skier that does all the disciplines.

All the great male Canadian skiers over the year, and James Crawford is only the fourth one to win an Olympic medal. Kind of wild.

 

Also of course this is the first time a Canadian man wins an Olympic medal in an Alpine Skiing race other than the downhill or super-g.

The all-around speciallists are gone. Literally nobody does all four events among men anymore. Tina Maze was the last true all-arounder among women since Lara Gut has quit on regular slaloms some time ago and Shiffrin doing Lake Louise DH is also temporary. Combined has become expendable when FIS discovered that parallel events can become exciting.

Well this was a perfect weird farewell of the Alpine Combined...

 

Anyway congrats to the medalists. Especially Kilde and Crawford surprised a lot with their slalom skills, even if it was a ultrasupermegashort slalom.

 

Pinturault, Schwarz and Murisier completely flopped even in this rather easy track, but I guess they knew it and had to perform a super risky run to medal and that showed to be too costly for them as every small mistake is not forgiven in such short slalom

In that case we might as well get rid of the big globe too.

    • This might be unpopular but it would allow way more sports and quotas and cities to host at a lower cost. 
    • I think Julia Tannheimer will continue to perform so well on the flatter courses in Ruhpolding and Antholz, which will suit her technique. Oberhof will be more exciting, the courses are very demanding, but quite comparable to the World Championships in Lenzerheide. That's why I'm really looking forward to Oberhof this season. Anyone who can cope well with the courses in Oberhof should also be able to run at the front at the World Championships.

    • Thanks for your predictions, they are very interesting.   But here it will be a different format. Combined events - pairs of athletes, one male/female will perform in downhill and other will perform in slalom. E.g. Team SUI 1 Odermatt plus Meillard.
    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.
