Switzerland, France, Sweden and USA are still all realistic candidates, no?

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

For the love of god don't let this be in Thialf. I mean, it's definitely the Mecca of speed skating, no doubt about it, but it'd be such a waste to have the Olympic events there, far far away from the Olympics.

Still closer than Tahiti though :d

They and the second venue both have to say no before a temporary venue in Nice is considered.

But for 95% of the time looking at slightly moving water it doesn't matter that much, at least :p

IOC report: https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/International-Olympic-Committee/Commissions/Future-host-commission/Olympic-Winter-Games/Commission-Report-2030.pdf

Hockey would be held in a soccer stadium (split into two ice rinks). IIHF has expressed concerns on the temporary nature of the venue

Curling venue is too small according to the WCF

Short track and figure skating venue is new, but the IOC has asked for a Plan B

Speed skating venue TBD BUT WILL BE OUTSIDE FRANCE.

What a sh*t show.

They had a perfectly good bid in :SWE Stockholm.

What a joke this new bidding process is. I think this will be the worst Winter Games (giving Beijing a bit of a pass here because of COVID) since… the last time France hosted xD

Sweden would have had a venue overseas too, but yea this 2030 French bid seems rushed

Oh ya, the Stockholm bid was far from

perfect, but it was a complete bid. As opposed to being picked first and developing a bid second.

I will also admit to being frustrated that the Alps will host three of the next four Winter Olympics, that seems truly excessive. Other mountain ranges exist.

I fully expect Switzerland to fumble their chance.
