So today is the day. Finita la comedia :)

Yeah. And when I do all the counting and prediction of the athletes who qualify, is super time consuming. 😄😄. Hopefully during next qualification period, the Olympic ranking will be updated automatically, not once a week 😄😄

UK Athletics Champs 2024 :GBR Day 1

Men

100m - Louis Hinchliffe, Jeremiah Azu

Long Jump - Jacob Fincham-Dukes

Discus - Nicholas Percy

Shot Put - Scott Lincoln

Women

100m - Daryll Neita

100m Hurdles - Cindy Sember

3000m SC - Elizabeth Bird

Pole Vault - Molly Caudrey

Some of the above are 100% guaranteed, some have met the UK Athletics criteria but will be waiting for the WA invite to be 100% sure but I'm including them here.

There are other athletes who either have the Q but who weren't competing here (Dina Asher-Smith in the 100m for example), or are in an event where UKA - in their infinite wisdom - don't accept the invites. Sigh.

What about Okoye in Discus?
is he in?

Can we keep a list of those whose we expect to have invites rejected in the name of raising standards/ cost cutting.

A question regarding the ranking: some people could have two results from National Championship in their top 5 results. Is that possible?

Some could have 3 if you include indoor national championships…

I think we can say that Poland didn't use NC to improve rankings significantly

Have you results of women’s 400m as huge potential for improvement there

    • Meanwhile, Iran killed a Palestinian civilian on the West Bank last night (and lightly injured two Israelis) in a 180 missile attack, which - like in April - seems to have ended up being not much more than somewhat annoying and damaging a few military buildings.
    • America was founded as a country for immigrants from all over (legal immigration), Israel is the land of the Jews, the one land of the jews, so yes i could definitely say that they should take them back, though after the recent attacks i'm not sure who can take them where since it seems like we are about to turn the middle east into a big crater (hopefully)
    • Until about 15 years ago, France probably didn't even have a national futsal team? Or if they did, they certainly didn't play in big events. On the other hand: Italy, Russia and Ukraine have always been strong in this sport, although Italy almost always lost to Spain in key matches.
    • In these days it's rare for a Russian to support for the Ukrainians, am I right?
    • The whole "homeland" talk (which both Israelis and Palestinians engage in) always bothers me because of how incredibly stupid it is.   As a random example, I am Acadian. So where is my "homeland"? Is it Quebec, the "French" area in North America? Is it New Brunswick, where my ancestors fled to after being deported? It it Louisiana, which was set asside for them as a place to live by the British after they were deported? It is Nova Scotia, where the Acadians settled before being conquered and deported? Is it Normandy, where my ancestors lived in Europe before settling in Nova Scotia? Is it Denmark, where my ancestors lived before conquering Normandy? Or do I go back further? Or maybe I should live in Great Britain since my ancestors were forced to become subjects of the Crown? And I'm Roman-Catholic, so maybe Italy is my homeland?   Especially stupid because for every single one of those places, some other group has a better claim as it being their "homeland" than I do, because it turns out it isn't that rare for multiple ethnic groups to have competing legitimate claims over the same area.   Anyway, I ended up moving to Washington State, which is objectively not "my homeland" but, hey, weather's nice here.
    • This feels like... not an argument an American (or a Canadian :P ) should be making given where we live and how many countries could "take us back"...
    • Plus losing one of the classic winter sports in Nordic combined would be yet another disaster. Like it's not going downhill faster than Marco Odermatt already.
    • And considering Lappartient is basically known as having 'Conflict of Interest' as his middle name....yeah.
    • What nonsense is this?     And Tour de Ski only in Italy...meh. It was such a cool event, years ago.
    • World Junior Championships ( Chuncheon)   Day #1 Medallists   women's -52kg Gold:  Parnian Noori Silver:  Xu Yinuo Bronze:  Sila Irmak Uzuncavdar &  Noa Romero Fernandez   women's -59kg Gold:  Aynaz Nasiri Silver:  Nuray Kaznabek Bronze:  Ella Brewster & Marija Uglesic   men's -52kg Gold:  Jung Jaebin Silver:  Stanislav Mitkov Bronze:  David Valdez Vazquez &  Vasif Salimov
